Hi,

I've just received my first custom instrument... a bass! I've been looking for years to find MY BASS, I wanted a very special design, a kind of 60' modern bass. Last year I've decided to go and try some instrument and after a lot tests, I've just my favorite: Mathieu Boulet, a very nice guy who works very well, a friend of mine already bought an Jazz Archtop from this luthier and he was more than happy.

I went to his "atelier" and speak with him all day about my project... 6 month later, it was finished and I've received my bass 2 days ago! First time I was ordering an instruments and I'm more than happy, the design I really want and THE SOUND (he's making its own pickups and make a lot of them before make me test the final version). My quest for THE bass is finished, now I'm gonna order a guitar and soon an acoustic bass (got the opportunity to try one from him and it was so good!).

Here's a link to some pics of the bass: (not mine... Mathieu Boulet make a kind of "book" that each customer get with the instrument!)

I'll post most pics with "me and my bass" in the next couple of days (pics will be quite poor...)

And here's the website of that guy:

it's in french but there's an english version too (but my bass is not online yet...)

If you want some infos on my new "baby" just let me know, I'd be more than happy to answer! It's the best bass I've ever had!!!! (and get all basses you can dream... and sold most of then year after years!)

Wow, that is one beautiful bass. Never thought I'd be commenting on one here on TGP, ha ha...

I'm loving some of the guitars on this guy's site as well. That B-Blues model with the double F-holes is gorgeous.

Thanks a lot! He's working very well :bow

but he only makes around 12 guitars or basses a year... that's why I'm gonna order a guitar soon, don't want to wait 10 years for an instrument!

A little update about MY bass:JAM

Have been playin' all day with it and compared it with my others basses...

Handwired pickups by Mr. Boulet are the best I've ever heard... really my style, he really understood what I was looking for! Got a lot of differents pickups (Antiquity, Fralin, Lollar, Nordstrand - and a lot more in the past - and a lot of JS) and they are the best I've ever heard! He made some of them before installing them on the bass and he offers the possibility to change it again if I was not happy! It's the best JB sound I've ever heard:bow
And I've tried a lot of them (my favorite are a 70' JB ala Marcus, really dig that sound and MY bass is really better... and don't get a maple neck but really the sound i was looking for!)

Neck is so fast and so smooth and guess it will be even better after hours on that beauty! Once again, I want to thank Mr. Boulet and tell the world how much I like his work :rotflmao

Thanks! First time I'm posting about one of my instrument but as it was very special to me, it was important to me to make a small post. Didn't expect a custom instrument could be so exciting:D

I think it's important to speak about small european luthier, there's a lot of luthier in the US and Canada and less in Europe, so I wanted to share my own experience with one of that small guy! And I'm sure he's gonna become big and renowed quite soon, so I'll be the first to speak about him here! Belgium is a small country and Mathieu Boulet is the finest luthier in Belgium and probably in Europe!

Congratulations on your Boulet Bass, very cool looking!

Thanks a lot! I'm so happy with my bass that I'm gonna order a guitar now, had to think seriously of what I'd like to get! and then wait for another 6 month:bonk

Mr Boulet should create a new range of guitars soon, a bit more "sexy" than his current electric range! (I told him it was a very good idea as the B-Rock guitar are cool but too wise! but they sound damn good, I've tried them all in his demo room!)

A little post 6 months after

I've used my bass a lot, make a lot of gig and it's really the best bass I've ever had, easy to play and the sound! I was a bit afraid when ordering the bass to regret my purchase but I can say that half a year after getting it, I'm still lovin' it! So much that I'm gonna order another instrument from Mr Boulet... an acoustic bass!

I've tried one he made and it sounds so nice! The one I've tried was made for a famous band in Belgium, so here's what I'm gonna order soon:

Thanks! it's the first time I'm still more than happy with a bass I've bought 6 month ago... guess I had more than 20 bass in the past, all were really good (some rickenbacker, vintage Jazz Bass and Pbass, Gibson, Mosrite, Musicman) but after some month still disapointed for somethin' (sound, weight, playability...). With the Boulet everythin still perfect!!! (but I've asked all specs I really want after getting so much instruments!)

now I'm raising money for the acoustic bass and one of these days a guitar but it won't be quick...
