1957 gibson es225t!

These are quite possibly my favorite type of electric guitars. I love the wraparound tailpiece---it makes the string tension feel like a wraptail les paul, which is slinky and fantastic, I think. They have a tendency to sustain like solidbodies, but they have the "bigness" of a hollow guitar...just fantastic (plus, you can never go wrong with a '50's gibson p90).

This guitar is all original, save the truss-cover and the tuner tips. Such a player! And the spacer for the pickup pushes the dogear p90 right up next to the strings, which makes it REALLY hot for an old guitar; this 225 drives my old ga19rvt into od...and my lp special does not (same pickups). The fact that the instrument is entirely hollow adds to this effect, too...

I've wanted one of these for SUCH a long time, and I finally made it happen. (though I no longer own my klon ...)

Well, to be fair, I will disclose this piece of info: the Klon only paid half. I also sold a few cheaper things...

Congrats! Pity I didn't knew about your 225 lust when you still had the 330, you could have had the 225 sooner.. :)

I love those and had a few along the way. A very big sound from those old Gibsons.

"...sustain like solidbodies, but they have the "bigness" of a hollow guitar".

That succinctly nails it pretty well. I love the 225 for that very reason, but would never be happy with the one p.u. in that location. Why didn't they place it at the bridge or f.b. position?!?!?

Glad you're happy with yours. Gotta love that '59 neck, yes?

^The pickup location is why those have such a unique and huge sound.

Weeeelll, y'don't think the bridge/t.p. on a completely hollow body is a factor? I had a two p.u. 225 and it had two "unique and huge sound(s)". I had a 330 with the one p.u. in the middle and, yes, it was unique, but not my cup o' meat, plus the polepieces tore up my pick and/or fingernails.

But, hey, the OP is thrilled, so Huzzah! I'm just happy when a heading sez "New" gtr and it turns out to be an old gtr!

The middle position pickup is somewhat of a comfort issue, though I'm adjusting pretty quickly...

I love the way that the guitar sounds with the pickup in the middle. I think that the neck position could be overwhelming dark (unless you didn't use the spacer), and the bridge would forfeit some of the underbelly that I like so much about this model. If I had the dual-pickup model, I'm sure that i would like that, too, but I purposely sought the 225t...b/c I think that they sound very special. I've had two 330t's (a '59 & a '60), and I liked those guitars, but they seemed to lack the throatiness of the 225t---which I attributed to the height of the pickup (its proximity to the strings), the tailpiece, and the single-cut body/neck joint. Whatever the case, I couldn't be happier with a guitar acquisition, unless it was an early '50's goldtop (or something more lucrative that could easily net me that goldtop!).

Hopefully in a couple of weeks I will no longer "discover" the pickup under my pick and my fingers randomly...
