Last week I did a solo acoustic gig at a new restaurant. Went down really well, did an extra hour for an extra $100, got booked again to do this Friday. I suggested starting at 7pm instead of 6, as the first hour was quietish last time. So yesterday I turn up at 6.20 to set up, find another guy already playing. Go see the boss. He says: "I made a mistake, I'm sorry. Invoice me for your usual fee and I'll pay you."
Ten minutes later I'm out of there heading home with $300 cash in pocket. He wants to book me regularly. No weaseling or lying at all. Compared to the rest of the venues around here, this has left me totally amazed and impressed.

Wow - you may have run into the "last honest man".

That's great news, sincerely. I try to be a stand-up guy; and I'm glad your club owner is too!

Thanks, Dana O.

i am one of those people. i bend over backwards for owners like that. he must feel you are worth it. that makes this music thing worth while. congrats on that gig!!

show up some off night and spend some of that money at his place. believe me, they don't forget things like that.

That's nicer than my 'double-booked' story.

I found another guitar player unloading in the parking lot at what we each thought was our gig. I had to hustle my amp in to avoid being snaked.

I'll definitely be taking my wife there for dinner one of these days. The food is superb by all accounts, and I'll be happy to put some money back his way.

I vaguely remember hearing a story about pre-fame Lynyrd Skynyrd and some other Southern band turning up at the same venue and the roadies battling it out in the carpark with baseball bats for who got to do the gig. Anybody shed some light on this or is just an urban legend?
