Sometimes there is an amazing tone you can get out of a pedal that was never the intended use, and I'm curious about your finds.

Mine is the Boss Xtortion pedal, which was designed as a heavy distortion pedal, but with one setting (and to my knowledge, one setting only) I can get a great always-on overdrive/eq tone.

With the Volume at max, the Contour at about 10 o'clock, and the Punch and Distortion at zero, I get such a nice tone that I always leave it on. It smooths out the midrange of the signal, with a touch of bass and treble boost, and breaks up in a remarkably tube-like way, in a really Blackface kind of way.

In front of several solid state Fender amps, a '74 Super Reverb, and even my current Rivera TBR-1M, it always adds a little bit of sparkle that is missing the second you turn it off.

Anyway, so what is your best unintentional sound?

my 2 year old came into my home studio while i was doing some cleaning and fiddled with the settings on my Boss DD-3.
when i tried it out afterward, it had the perfect (for me) slow-fade runaway shimmer echo trails sound.

i took note of the exact settings just in case she decided to undo her work.

I use one of my boosters as a volume cut, because it adds a little bit of sparkle even when it cuts down the volume. Really doing the exact opposite of boosting

Well it's no secret that a fuzz pedal can give some cool clean sounds with the guitar's volume rolled back, but I kind of have been using it to extremes lately. I recently got a Freekish Blues Freek Out, and while all fuzzed up it's way cool, I'm using it for how it cleans up. I'm getting some really interesting clean/cleanish tones using the pedal with the fuzz up but the guitar's volume way down. Basically, I'm using a fuzz pedal for clean tones! LOL :rotflmao

Boss DS-1 is my favorite low gain overdrive.
And no - I'm not crazy.

David Gilmour's use of the wah (input reversed) to make the seagull sound on Echoes (and Embryo) comes to mind as a great unintended use of a pedal.

i have an old Electro Harmonix Y triggered FIlter that has very little headroom. When hit hard it makes a bong gurgling sound.

The glitchy messy chaotic sounds that a whammy makes when playing chords. Can be fun.

I can get that "AM-Radio" tone out of my DMM.

That is wild!

Never knew that. Who'd have tried a wah backwards other than Gilmour.

learned that from bjorn.

i actually can use this now. . . .

great fun and can be quite musical

while "intended" may be a question. . . . i loved using the bd2 as a full-out fuzz (gain near max). great pedal.

I think hendrix used the backwards wah too.. Not sure who started doing it but it doesn't change the fact that they're both musical geniuses with their own style ;)

I stumbled upon using my new compressor as a boost to get some gain during solos. Love how it sounds recorded.

My phase 100 into a fully wet RV3 sounds like outerspace
