I’ve been a fuzz fan for awhile and have a Sunface and Musket on my board, but I picked up a Skinpimp MKIII recently and have been blown away by it. I can’t believe all the tones available and how kick-ass each of them are. When I pair it with my Timmy, it can nail everything from stinging blues to grunge to a sweet 70’s hard-rock tone. If I could only keep one dirt pedal, it would definitely be the MKIII.
One question, are the MKI and MKII tones different enough to warrant picking them up too?

Ha! You sound like me! Yes, the MKI and MKII are different enough. I have a MKIII and MKII, and there is certainly a MKI in my future. You should also check out the Buzzaround and the 3OD. All the Skinpimps are fabulous pedals!
U make me wana get the MKIII too man.
Sorry to hijack the thread but what are the differences between the MKI, II and III in terms of gain and character of the fuzz?

I just have the MKII and MKIII, but I'd say the MII is more raw and splattery. It also has far less bass and volume than the MKIII is capable of. The MKIII is more refined and has a tone control, a hi cut control and a three way voicing switch that affects the fatness of the sound. The MKII just has volume and amount of fuzz. The tone you get is what you get, but what a tone it is! The MKII sounds more like Led Zeppelin or Jeff Beck's Truth album. The MKIII is a great, but different sound. A bit more modern perhaps. It's also more versatile. They both have lots of gain.

I've had all of Ryan's fuzzes, including the early ones. I'm down to just a MKI currently as the MKII and III's aren't the sound I'm going after at the moment, but they were good. I'm probably biased..(heh, see what I did there, "biased"), but his MKI is just spectacular. It's a little different from a replica MKI with NOS parts, but that is a good thing as it doesn't have as much of the the static or artifacts, nor does it spit and drop out when you roll the attack way back. Don't get me wrong, those aforementioned characteristics are the charm of the MKI circuit, but there is a need for that biting, midrange cutting, chaotic MKI fuzz that has a tad more modern sensibility to it, and that is what the Skinpimp, at least mine anyway, has going for it.
Hmmm...sounds very GAS inducing!

I have the Skinpimp MKIII, MKII, and Buzzaround. The MKIII is definitely my favorite. Sure, the MKII sounds different but you can get pretty close to the same sound with the MKIII. If I were to keep only one fuzz pedal, it would definitely be the MKIII (at least out of the fuzz pedals I've owned to date, though I'm still trying other ones).
BTW, does anyone know what the 3-way switch actually does?
