My buddy has an Ovation Adamas with a carbon fiber top. Sounds fabulous.
Anybody have the Rainsong guitar which is 100% carbon fiber?
Very interesting.

I have a CA, which is pretty similar in materials and sound (to my ear). Pretty lively sound, pretty balanced. Love to practice on it, and bring to the park (and not fear rain, wind, etc.)

I also play an Ovation but plan to buy a Rainsong Jumbo 6 & 12 in the future. They sound amazing plugged in and pretty damn good unplugged. I heard CA went belly up due to the economy, but Rainsong is still in business. Necks are superb.

I used to sell them. We had to drop the line, as guitarists here in New England are a very conservative bunch, and our laid back approach to sales didn't really work for introducing new products, but they remain my wife's favorite guitar. Women, of course, are more sensitive to higher frequencies than men, and it was the extra overtones of the Rainsong that she liked.
What I found intriguing was, as you go up the neck, the notes still ring. Wooden guitars keep the steel strings from sounding jangly by absorbing the highs into the soft wood tops, which means the higher the notes start sounding dull and a bit "plinky", but with their carbon fiber / damping pack construction Rainsong was able to get just the right highs for the notes to be musical.
Build quality was superb 5 years ago (haven't seen one since). No warranty problems or return/resales from the ones we sold.

I just came into this thread to recommend a CA over any other carbon instrument. Still to this day one of the best acoustics i've ever heard. Full of life with a bright rich tone. Excellent guitar.
I heard they went out of business then got bought out by......fender? someone...

I have a Rainsong Jumbo; I owned a CA GX Performer before that. For me, and for the type of music I like (modernish fingerstyle), the Rainsong is in a different league. The Rainsongs are incredibly alive and responsive, and I prefer the neck on the Rainsong as well. Of course, some folks prefer the CA's - that's why all guitars are not identical! Maybe a company with the resources of Peavey can iron out some of the their QC issues and bring 'em back to production. Competition is a good thing.
