hey -

my band/church is looking into a board to use as our main, and i'm wondering HOW useful are motorized faders really? we're not pro enough to play the same way exact every time, so we'd have to do some adjusting anyway...

looking at the presonus live 24.4.2 vs...i'm not sure yet. budget is about 3-4K...

Motorized faders are only useful if you have a bunch of bands playing on the same night and have sound checks beforehand...that way you're in the ballpark already with the mix, and its only minor adjustments from there...honestly though, in a live situation for a small gig, it wouldn't be essential by any means...in reference to the studio live, those motorized faders would be far more useful when using it as a control surface for your computer when recording.

we're hoping to use it for both, essentially. it will neither be a straight recording board or a straight live board...

Ok well motorized faders in recording help a lot for automation, because when you set up the drivers properly, it automatically shifts the faders to where they were last time you opened the project. As you move the faders, the faders in the project move, as you move the faders in the project, the faders on the board move. I have a tascam fw1082 that i will probably never get rid of for this feature alone...its VERY useful.
