Can you all name a good disc to start off with him? I was just listening to some clips off You Tube and really digging this guy. Especially this Video:
Smoke & Mirrors
The Drummer is SICK. Great stuff. Whats his best stuff?

"Overtime" is both a a great DVD and a cd to start with... it goes through his whole career and he plays live versions of his tunes with killer back up bands.
The dvd is SUPERB! a great introduction to his work

Pick up the one he did with Larry Carlton ...
I particularly love his work on that one & the tunes are very catchy..
Plus U get the added addition of Larry .. Great stuff!!
U can't go wrong with two great guitarists ,,

I'd second the Ritenour/Carlton disc. There are also some nice live clips of that collaboration on youtube. Personally I've always liked him better doing the pop-fusion thing rather than his straighter jazz outings: the latter to me sounds as if he's channeling Wes a bit too obviously whereas I here more of a personal voice on the fusiony discs. Of course, whatever he plays the's damned good at it so I'm talking preferences here

Thanks again for all the opinions so far......does he do anything a little more on the Bluesy side of the tracks? I'm guessing that would be what you suggested was pop as opposed to Straight ahead jazz?

I always found "Feel the Night" to be very accessible
