Just bought a really nice THD 2x12 cab. never thought to ask if the guy smoked. My Wife is giving me "the business" for buying a smelly cab. Any ideas on how to de-stink it?

I find the best way is natural ozone...sit it outside in the shade on a clear, dry day.

Even better on a windy day! Also, throw a few dryer sheets in the bottom of the cab, that will help some.

I bought a well used SF Champ a few years ago - it smelled to high heaven of smoke. I scrubbed it with orange cleaner, sprayed it with fabreeze, tried a number of things - none helped.

- Sold it - couldn't stand the stink.

YMMV

Febreze seems to do a good job removing stale odors...

Oh, and wipe down the tolex with pledge, and maybe try some febreeze on the grill cloth.

Hope that helps! Smoke absorbed into things is the worst smell!

Remove speaker.

Used mild soap on the Tolex and a touch brush to do the grill. A little moisture here and there won't wreck the cabinet. Even wipe the wood inside. Towel drive it and let it sit outside by day then bring it inside. You should get rid of 90 % of the odor.

I've wiped tolex down with an equivalent product to armor-all (car interior polish)... it just had less of a greasy residue that armor-all does.

I agree with the sun affect others have mentioned.

Armor All isn't good for anything, cars included.

i used lemon pledge, and put my ecoquest air purifier on top of it. That unit is amazing, has an ozone generator, so it might be the same as setting it outside. I hope! 26 degrees and snowing. don't think i ought to set it outside right now.

There are a few good vinyl car interior cleaners that don't leave a residue and that actually work. Anything that leaves a residue, or seals the stench in, like a wax, isn't really a good idea.

The biggest problem is that smoke permeates the cells of wood and will not come out of the grille cloth for a long time, even with Febreze or airing it outside.

If it were me, I'd sell it.

Used an ozone machine to unsmoke houses while working for Servpro. It works like magic....but where the hell are you going to find an ozone machine?

I had great luck by:

Removing Speaker.

Remove Baffle and clean grill using a diluted mixture of simple green/water and a soft brush. Even if the grill cloth doesn't LOOK too dirty, you will be surprised how much ick washes out.

I use the same kind of cleaning mixture on the tolex/hardware too.

Then I "BLAST" the thing in a small, enclosed space (closet) with this ozone generator (great odor-killing devices).

thanks, telecollector. I have an ecoguest air purifier that makes ozone. I'll have to lock it in my closet for a few hours and see if it works.

The last thing I would be doing is adding perfume (dryer sheets or smelly sprays) to the smell. 2 wrongs don't make a right in my nose.

Nice day, put it in the back of your pickup truck and go for a long drive out in the country or along the beach... The air blowing through will help a ton....

There is a product called Nature's Miracle you can get at the pet store. It's an enzyme based cleaner that works very well on smoke and other odors. It is colorless and odorless and will break down any organic material or residue (including smoke) that can cause odors. It may take a couple applications and a few days for it to work... but it will. It's is intended for cleaning up pet mess but it works well on anything organic that stinks.

Be careful with those electronic ozone generators. They are known to damage rubber and other elastomers. They can also burn your lungs if set too high.

We used a similar product when we had a cat. If it will work on cat piss (and it did) it should work on just about anything.

it will take a few weeks, but leaving it outside will definitely get the smell out eventually. The suns radiation will kill that stink as well.
I caught a lot of flak around the pedal section for asking this same question. I received a pedal that stunk, even touching it would leave my hands smelling like cigarette.
I got a lot of lame responses by people who can't believe that there are people out there who choose not to smoke  imagine that.
anyhow, yeah wash it, leave it outside and in direct sunlight for short periods of time and it will eventually go away.
good luck

It always amuses me when you ask a valid question about something that 50% of the people on this forum have dealt with, and people incredulously ask if this is a "real" post. Thanks for the help, guys. I will let you know how the vamoose works.
