Hope this is the right place to post this...

Guys...I just got email from a good friend who got a new (used) Strat. He was polishing frets with mild abrasive and the rag accidently rubbed on the body for a second. Nothing deep, just superficial.

Any suggestions on something to polish out the scratches? Maybe a Maguire product?

He's all bummed out - he's only had it a few days. Thanks a bunch.

What's important is how deep the scratches are. That will tell you which product to start with.

Micromesh sells a plastic polishing kit that has all of the materials in it to buff out haze/scratches in plastic (or polyurethane guitar finishes!). That might be a flexible solution, plus it's great for old tail-light lenses and such.

Maguires's mirror glaze #9, it can be purchased at an auto parts store.

I use Meguiar's myself, mainly #2 and #3. #9 strikes me as a bit light for anything that can truly be called a scratch.

Thanks so much for your advice guys...I'll pass this along. I told him now he wouldn't have to worry about the first ding... ;)

Call it mojo, and the first steps down the path of a natural relic!

It's not going to be the last ding on the guitar, but he can try to buff it out with Meguires as suggested above.

Even the most qualified shop puts dings albiet tiny.. on guitars..it happens...so your friend
should be happy he put it there himself..
