Some pretty horrific stuff there but, to be fair, some of those folks have aged quite gracefully.

smilefan
12-11-2010, 04:09 AM
Seems in general the older folks took a beating from the lifestyle,
not knowing what they were doing to themselves. The younger folks
seem to have got the message and excersized a little more caution.

Mick Jagger's photo tells us that time ain't on our side -- he looks like a saddle bag with eyes. It looks to me like Stevie Nicks and Deborah Harry had some work done -- Stevie had a better surgeon than Deborah. Pat Benetar has aged well. Joan Jett is only 53. Tom Petty looks really good for 60. Ozzy is an indication of what using too many drugs do for you. Some of those people are in their mid-sixties and early 70s. Life on the road is hard and they show the miles. And Les Paul is in there to tell us that we don't get out of this alive.

Pat Benetar looks even better in person these days. I had the great pleasure of meeting her and watching her show from the side of the stage this past August. Her curves are better than they ever were back in the day. She and her husband both look healthy and fit and are real cool to hang with.

There's something great about growing older and it's that you really don't have to crap about looking beautiful. You can just be yourself. It is good to take care of your health, though, and not let yourself go.

The sad thing to me is when musicians do not evolve musically. To be stuck playing the same music you played when you were 20 years old is a life sentence in musical prison in my eyes.

On Mick Jagger: If you compare a pix from 1965 to one today of anybody, it's going to be pretty shocking. All in all, Mick looks pretty good, and he's in great physical shape and seems to have his mental faculties.

By contrast ...

On Keith Richards: The OP chose a favorable pix of Richards, and Richards' new teeth helps his looks. But all and all, Richards looks like a burnout and talks like a burnout. He also really can't play anymore; check out the Scorcese film and you'll see what I mean. Even so, I still like his riffing from the late 60s and 70s.

I don't get that impression.

Then and Now pics are interesting to me.

Some, like Plant, you can still see the basic features with some small changes from age.

Others are really different and/or surgically changed on a basic level.

Some, like Frampton, have matured into an elder statesman look. Others, like Tyler, are showing the effects of the hard life that living on the road can cause.

Their faces are like a book to be read about living the RnR dream.

Thanks to the OP for posting these -- really interesting. What's that line: "At 20 you have the face you were born with; at 60 you have the face you deserve." (Or, as Bono sang, "The lines on your face are the map to your soul.") Of course everyone is going to look a little rougher now than they did back then -- maybe that's just a sign of a life lived to the full. Rock stars are as human as the rest of us.

(Except for Prince, maybe. He's got way too much talent to be a mere mortal.)

Thanks to the OP for posting these -- really interesting. What's that line: "At 20 you have the face you were born with; at 60 you have the face you deserve." (Or, as Bono sang, "The lines on your face are the map to your soul.")

Lets see what Bonos soul map looks like then.....

Who's the babe in the large pic? She is way to hot to be in a " then and now thread"

smilefan I am going to use this one, I was laughing my ass off.

Both so smoking hot they would have made a Bishop

The vanity required in show business is nothing to scoff at.

Lindsay Lohan. Shouldn't be on this thread for rockstars.
She seems to be morphing into her mother.

Joan Jett and Pat Benatar really look beautiful.

Seriously, thanks for posting. Nice shots. Many have aged very well. Good before & after stuff. I think most of them look great.

I recently connected via Facebook with a band I was in in '71. We have pictures of us then and now and despite the aging process, we're happy to be alive and still playing music. We're planning a reunion this January and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.

And plugged!

A lot of the aged rock stars are sporting pluggos.

That is some seriously fake hair. Not very blue collar if you ask me.

Plugs are blue collar. Tupe's are elitist.

I happened upon Nancy once while walking to a pub/bar on Mercer St with friends in Seattle in 99'. There was this funky play house that popped up on an empty lot in lower Queen Anne and she was outside talking with friends. I didn't stop, but noticed her and just said her name and "wow, what a pleasant suprise.". She smiled and we kept on our way.

Really though; beer with friends vs ogling over a famous singer. I don't know... I'll choose the drinks every time!

the effect of time on these "rockstars" seems far more evident on the ladies than on the guys.

imho, when you get to the age when you have your 20th high school reunion (and from that time on), the effect of time is always more evident with the women than the men.

just my 2 cents, ymmv................

I dunno.

Reeks of insecurity, vanity and desperation to me.

I mean, who is Bruce trying to impress? More money than God, every kind of critical praise, millions of fans...and still needs to get hair surgically implanted in his scalp so he doesn't look bald. Sad, really.

Nose and ears also continue to grow throughout your lifespan. Take a look at some old folks; huge noses and ears. Especially on males.

And then there's the 'gin blossom' effect, when the tip of the nose gets bulbous are red from decades of drinking.
