Ed seems really lucid in this vid. HAHA. There were a few where he was just off his rocker. Good find!

Living legend.

Created more guitarists that both Jimi's combined.

Yeah he seemed very normal compared to most of the vids I've seen of him.

Created more wankers then Jimi anyway. Still talking about Jimi over 40 years later. EVH is a washed up has been.

Lovely input, thanks for that.

Can I see your 4 #1 albums in a row & the 93 million dollars from your last tour?

I can't access the video at the moment. Is this the one where he's kinda tuning the cute host?

Those would be the SRV numbers.

I'm a fan. Got all the cds as well as boot concerts. Saw them ruin Sabbath in '78.
I just thought the Jimi comment wasn't called for. Vid is cool too.

What I like about the video is the setting - he's being interviewed by a girl with an MTV mic for MTV. She asks about his guitar because she knows he's a famous guitarist and that guitar is different to her likely because it doesn't have stripes.

He's all geeked out and standing next to his rig so he basically leads her through a gear demo. All the while, she's audibly nodding along with obligatory motions of uninformed interest. "mm-hmmm.. oh, I see. but, what abou-.. wow... yes."

This would have been 95 or so, right?

That was neat. Happy Eddie, no bitterness.

Not sure how anyone could call him a has-been. He's reached a certain rare status that even if he does not produce anything else, his contribution is already a huge legacy.

Me too. There were vids in the mid-nineties where the whole band was having fun, joking around, and being nice. Don't know what the hell happened? Oh well...

Ed seems to be more together these days it seems.

Yup. If my memory serves me correct, it was sometime around August when they filmed their Toronto concert for PPV. Also around that time, the band was the focus of an episode of Road Rules, hence their appearance on MTV that year.

Great video-his rack really didn't change much from 1986 when Bob Bradshaw built the first one until the Balance tour.

ok. Let's celebrate him being so much of a junky, that he didn't live past the age of 27.

Nice try, I'll give you that.
He died from asphyxiation due to inhalation of vomit. Get your info straight.

No worse then a lifelong drunk, who can't play anymore anyway.

Is it weird that I remember getting this (balance) cd the day it came out and since I was moving into an apartment, I can remember listening to my first pass through it while sitting in the driver's seat of my crappy college car?

I didn't catch them on this tour... too busy working and too busy being poor!

:aok

I'll take back my remarks about the interview setting because it pales in comparison to how off the cliff into the deep end people in this thread get about justifying their favorite guitarist against another.

Even if this is true, EVH has forgotten more about guitars, guitar building, guitar playing, amplification, etc... than you will EVER know in your lifetime.. stop hating.

he says the same exact thing he did in 1978: its all in the body wood and fingers.

He comes off as kind of nerdy here lol.

Not about me. It's about a comment about Jimi that was uncalled for.
There you go- typical of his great last tour.

Where did I say he didn't die from asphyxiation? And what caused the asphyxiation?

You put him on a pedastal because he died at 27, and slightly past his peak. Big achievement there. I'm sure if he made it to his 50s, we'd all be talking about how he use to be great.

German brand sleeping pills. So, in your view everybody who ever took a sleeping pill is a junky.

That was the pre-sobriety first leg.

I know for a fact that Ed has been completely clean & sober since March 2008. Find any video from when they resumed the tour in Reno in April 08 until the end of the tour in Quebec in July 2008 & then tell me its bad. I had a chat with his guitar tech last year (Tom Weber) who confirmed Ed's sobriety.

True, the first leg started great, then the bad playing started showing up, then he went to rehab. After rehab, he was playing great again.

Cool vid, I saw EVH as guests of Bon Jovi here in the UK.
Safe to say VH wiped the floor with ol' Jon Boy. Although I did feel a bit sorry for Sambora having to follow EVH as I've always liked him

Funny thing for me is the VJ, Vanessa Warwick, nice to see her again after all these years. She's got no idea what Ed's on about!

Oh, and the Jimi Vs EVH arguement seems a fair bit childish.
I'm in the Jimi camp as being the bigger influence but EVH had a MASSIVE influence on loads of music from 78 onwards. A true legend
