Anyone have an idea on a guideline for employee bonus? Full time, 6 months here, and a part time 5 hr per day work experience student. Im really not sure what people expect out there. Any ideas? Percentage of average paycheck?

Really?? Wow, it seems to expected around here. I was thinking about 50% of a 2 week pay. Maybe Im nuts.

I currently get 8% of my salary taxes paid. In a few years I'll get 10% taxes paid.

Also used to have a 10% fund which the company withheld 10% of salary and paid taxes at the end of the year. I did it for a few years and they were some pretty sweet checks I must say. :)

No bonus here, my company is too cheap.... it would take away from their profit :red

Wouldn't that be one weeks pay??

We dont do Christmas bonuses....then that would be expected every year. What we do is a profit sharing program. It is a percentage of the profits so everyone can help to make us a more profitable company and share in it. No profits no bonus....big profits, big bonus.

Usually, a bonus is paid after a certain tenure is achieved. It would be rather rare to get anything in your case. Next year...a different story.

No bonus last year, but we did get one this year - a potluck.

Typical bonus is in the $500k range for a Jr. employee. Entry to the big bonus pool takes some years.

You did say you're at Goldman Sachs, right...?

I get to continue employment and contribute more to my retirement - with no cost of living adjustment or raise. Local government is not the place to earn big bucks, I guess.

Honestly?

Just finding out you still have a job at the end of the year is a bonus these days.

I remember back in the Mid 80's typically 5% for general shop employees, 10% for supervisors/leadmen was the Normal at our place.
I was General Shop Manager and got 12% plus 2 extra days paid.
Oh how I miss those long gone days.

I work in a very small company (3 full timers) and my salary is kept fairly low but when we're having a good year my boss will throw me a hefty Christmas bonus. This was our best year so I am very pleased with my bonus.

Yes. Income is defined as "all income, in any way derived." So you must claim the mouse pad.

No xmas bonus, instead I got a ~4% raise.

Bonuses come for me when I bring in a large sum for the firm.

Zero. It's called a bonus. Allow it to be one, and be thankful for it. Good grief.

I got a nice bonus with taxes paid. Very handy this time of year. I am blessed to have a great job with a great company and I feel for those who don't. I have been there many times. Merry Christmas to all!

If we're lucky we might get 2.5% raise in February.

My wife got 10% of her salary. She has been with her company 12 years. Her bonus amount is contingent on the company meeting certain dollar goals for the year.
I typically get $500. I don't complain. I have had other employers in the same field who have given nothing but a fifth of booze.

5 years at my current job. Highly/Multi-skilled/Experienced. $0.00 is my bonus. On the bright side, I get one day off for Christmas Eve and one day off for NYE.
Apparently I've made some really bad career decisions over the last 20 years.

PS: sorry...I'm just a little Grinchy this year...at least I still have a job.

My fiance is probably one of the most talented art directors in all of New York City. Her work has been featured in at least 3 of the largest Holiday campaigns this year, spanning the web, print, billboards, sides of busses, etc etc... and she got nothing for a bonus. I make bad TV no one watches, and I got one.

Life isn't fair.

I got a full two week paycheck equivalent bonus last year.
This year it was 1.5 paychecks. Woo hoo!

My wife who makes a little more than I do got $200.00.

This is rare for me. Most of my jobs didn't give anything but
a boot in the ass when they were done with me.

Used to get a week's salary. Then the economy tanked. Last two years nothing. And they cut off the employer contributions to the 401K plan, too. Sheeez... Welcome to the "New Economy" and Merry F'ing Christmas!

It's not officially a bonus, but they give us the week off between x-mas and New Years. I'm cool with that.

Not really complaining, still got a job, very grateful...
this year my bonus is I get to work x-mas eve, x-mas day, NYE and NY day, woo-hoo!...
of course at time and a half on the actual holidays the 25th, 1st.

Yeah - me too - and I took a few vacation days on top of that. Students don't come back till Jan 18 so when I go back on the 5th it'll be like two weeks vacation in my shop . . . new TW Express cab coming up . . . :dude

I'm a union employee for a big-ass oil company.
We usually get around 5% of our yearly gross as our yearly bonus.
Generally this is in February, though-
all determined by the company's performance the previous year.

for Christmas we get a $25 HEB gift card. :rotflmao:bonk

bluesjuke
12-22-2010, 03:45 PM
Not too long ago I used to get the equivalent of 41 hours.
Now nothing.

I didn't count the Christmas card because we don't get that either.

Best to expect nothing. As a gubmint worker for many years, I got a big fat nothing. In private industry, I got a turkey one year. Another, a check for $100. And that was about it.

Be happy that you have a job. I don't mean that in a sarcastic way.

my first level stated this morning on conference call, we exceeded some goal he's judged upon. i replied "where we going for breakfast"....uproar...took a couple minutes to recover. those days are gone where i work. they dont owe me anything though. i'd like to hang on for 45 more months if possible.

No Xmas bonus where I work. No Xmas bonus where my wife works. But both places do let us take the last of our vacation time to get it off the books, so we've got that going for us (as Carl Spangler would say.)

One particularly good year in my old job I got like 4 grand. That's been so far my only Christmas bonus ever.

In my new job I get a contractually stipulated performance bonus but that's in March.

rob2001
12-22-2010, 07:22 PM
2% or 3% for me but the bigger bonus was getting called back to work after an 8 month layoff. So my 2% or 3% will only be for a few months, but that's not a complaint.

My brother works for the local ABC news in his area. Last year, no bonus. This year, a turkey dinner.

I work for the family business, which is barely making it now, and took a huge paycut in order to keep things going. I got a $200 bonus, though. Woohooooo!!!!!!!

One important question: what kind of companies are you working for? Public sector, or privately held companies, or small family businesses? No bonus, or small token bonus. Big, public companies with traded stock? You get a bonus.

Yes, we're all glad (and blessed) to be employed if we are employed....but why sneer or begrudge those that get a bonus if you don't? Some people are lucky enough to work for a big company.
