Hipstamatic: any fans??

I tried getting into photography, but the learning curve with another hobby was just a bit too much to take.....then I found a nifty app on the iphone that takes some pretty cool pics..nothing pro...just fun snaps. any fans of hipstamatic here??

best 10 bucks i ever spent on an app

I downloaded the Super 8 app (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/8mm-vintage-camera/id406541444?mt=8) a couple weeks ago and LOVED it. I have a film degree and that thing had me drooling. It so realistic it's ridiculous. I feel cheated for ever having used one with real film. You wouldn't believe how hard I tried to get that look on a couple projects just a few years ago.

Because that was so great, I downloaded Hipstamatic a couple days ago. It's pretty amazing. I don't think you can take a bad photo with it. I used it this morning to get a shot of a tattoo for another thread. Even though the picture was horrible, it still looked good. You could take a photo of your half eaten breakfast with that app and it would still look good.

Make sure its the right one http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id329670577?mt=8 . You apply the effects after the shot with this one by the way. SO leaves you the option to leave something untouched. Completely replaced the stock camera app on my phone. I also recommend 8mm for all your video fun needs. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/8mm-vintage-camera/id406541444?mt=8

It also has lots of fun frames, stabilizer when taking a photo, burst when taking photos, timer when taking photos. Never used FX photo studio but it looks really feature packed.

fx photo studio is great...really realy worth a buy if u like ur iphone photos...

wow! nice pics man. Yea, the Getty Center is such a great place as well. U can't lose with either one. I can't believe I've lived in Los Angeles for over 10 years and just discovered the Getty this past year.

Ha! Thanks! So, the one you quoted here is one of my favorite pics yet.. It's the John S Lens with the Black Keys B+W film... no flash.


The other one you asked about is a really fun lens. It's the Salvador 84 lens with Kodot XGrizzled film... no flash


The Salvador Lens is ridiculous. It basically turns your pic into a crazy Salvador Dali painting. The effects are completely random with the lens making a copy or copies of the original image and superimposing them over it. It twists, zooms, and distorts the copies in random ways.

Sometimes it looks bad, but sometimes... it's just magic :)

Upload them to a free hosting site like imgur.com or photobucket. I prefer imgur. Its interface is a lot easier. once it's there, just click on it and the site will give you a bunch of URL's to copy and paste as you want. Copy the one for message boards and just paste it in your post.

To do it manually, just put [/IMG] immediately before and after the URL of the picture like this:

Here is one I went crazy on. This is a portion of the Honeywell office building in Torrance, California. Camera settings were Lens: John S…Film: Ina’s 1935…Flash: Off. Original photo was square and had a large H in the red sign. After processing the image in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop and cloning out the H and other details I made a duplicate copy of the square image and flipped in horizontally and joined the two together and retouched the seams where they joined together. Then with the type tool I added the new sign to finish the image off.

I've been taking progress shots with Hipstamatic lately. It adds a little extra gritty flare to otherwise dull, unfinished work.

I've been using it for every snap shot I take. If I'm trying to absolutely control a shot I use my SLR, but iPhones take incredible snapshots in general. Hipstamatic make it all the better.

I am also loving myFilm. I like shooting the photo, and then being able to add the processing afterwards.

If you buy it on your Itunes account and have an Ipod Touch and Iphone.. can you put it on both or do you need to purchase it twice?

Does it still work pretty well with the Itouch even though the camera isn't as good as the one on the phone?

no need to purchase twice - it'll go on any device synched to the account that you bought it with, no extra charge.
