View Full Version : So, I find myself using my G-2 a lot...

... like, 90% or more of the time. My P-2 and SS-3 just sit there on the board most of the time during practice, and practically ALL the time at gigs. The G-2 just seems to work with what I'm doing now so well.
Same with my 5 or 6 different modulation pedals... I find that nearly all my sound is from the G-2, MXR Phase 90, and Analogman ARDX20. With the occasional use of wah.
What's this? Too many pedals? I feel blasphemous somehow.
My POG and Freeze are neat toys, but I don't find I actually use them gigging. My Goatkeeper, Boss DD-2 & CE-2, and the P-2 and SS-3 never get stepped on.
What kind of madness is this?
I have the G2 and SS3, and I am the same. I must say the G2 is the very best distortion pedal I've ever heard. Whenever I need distortion, this is my go-to pedal every time.
My SS3 also sees painfully little use. I might just sell it as the G2 does most of what the SS3 does if you turn the gain down.

To my ears, even if you "match" the SS-3 and G-2 gain-wise, there's still different character to each one. SS-3 is a fuzzy overdrive, whereas G-2 is fatter and thicker. I love and use both!

Sounds like me an my 12 wives. I kind of rotate between them depending on my mood. Don't get rid of them! One night you may be tired of blondes or brunettes and really be in the mood for a fiery red head! :roll

I am using the P2 and Pink Flesh more now, but understand how we get in "tone ruts." Eventually I will switch over to other pedals used less. It's like painting the seasons, we will change tone depending on how we feel and hear. Enjoy what you have and be glad you have a wide range to choose from! It would suck being stuck with some cheap Blue, Red, Yellow pedals that sound also sound like crap.
Enjoy your rainbow.

I agree, I prefer that slight "crunch" that the G2 has at low gain levels. Most of the stuff I use the SS3 for can be done on the G2 with the gain down.

I personally have decided to only keep pedals that I use these days. During the last years I tried quite a few stompboxes and have to admit that most of them were good ones indeed. What I did was to narrow down to the ones that really fit my rig and needs and sell all the rest. Now I'm saving for a new guitar and amp and don't really miss the "extra" pedals, regardless how great they were. No regrets here...

I dig - I find myself thinking of unloading everything that doesn't get used and getting a second amp trying a stereo rig. Or having a Cabronita clone built (I've been gassing for one lately).
But it'll be hard to part with the Cornish pedals. I just hate seeing them going to little/no use, and I know others out there would use them.

SS3 is just awesome solo boost used with G2 and with P2 too. Not saying it doesn't work with other dirt pedals as well cause it does. Great thing about it is that it can handle other gain pedals before it, it doesn't turn to mush like so many other pedals do. SS3 gain ad gain to the G2 (or whatever), it can add volume, brigthness, fatness you name it.
Though it's good to have some alternative for nights that G2 doesn't deliver, it happens. Sometimes it's just hard to get everything work in short period of time and in not familiar venue. It's weird how much it affects, same settings different place and result may be totally different and usually for the worse.
