I'm getting a new smart phone today. I want a droid but I don't know which one to get. My only reservation about the X is I'm wondering if it will be too big to carry in my pocket. Which do you recommend?

This is just my opinion but I prefer the Droid Incredible. I have one and have played with the "X", which is also very nice. Two things seal it for me; 1. I agree, I think the "X" is just too big. 2. Both phones use software made by the manufacture that "skins" the Android operating system... in essence they change the look of the user interface. I think HTC has been much more successful with this than Motorola.

They are both really nice though, go to a Verizon store and play with both.

I have a Droid X. I do not find it to be excessively large, though it is bigger than my iPhone 4. The Droid X is pretty good at making, receiving, and completing phone calls without interruption.

I find the Droid X to have a less than intuitive user interface, to be overly cluttered with extraneous or redundant functions, to be slow to user input and occasionally unresponsive, and generally to lack design coherence overall, but this is in comparison to my iPhone, not to another Droid.

If the Droid X OS and user interface is common to the Incredible, then I am just finding issue with Droids in general, not just the Droid X. However, if the interface is substantially different between the two Droids you are considering, then you have my feedback on the Droid X, for what it's worth....

Yes, the two user interfaces are different. The Incredible uses HTC's "Sense" user interface. And yes, in playing with both I have found that the HTC is a little faster overall than the X.

Got the incredible about a month ago, so far so good. Stumbled into the Best Buy cell phone area while doing a bit of christmas shopping. Got talking to the sales guy and realized I was eligible for an upgrade. Not sure if the deal is still going on, but it was free with any data plan. I got the 150MB for 15 bucks a month and a free phone. The Droid x would have cost me $200. Co-worker as the Droid x, and it is a bit on the large size. After the learning curve, I am very happy with the Incredible.

Do you prefer the Iphone 4 over the X? I'm up for renewal on Verizon and will be deciding between a Droid phone or the Iphone.

I went back and forth over this and settled on the incredible. Best phone I have used overall, though I think the call handling alone was slightly superior on my old blackberry. The droidX was just too big, not by much, but a little too much to fit in my pocket comfortably. The incredible is the same size as an iPhone4 but a good bit lighter. As for responsiveness, it literally runs circles around the new iPhone. I work in an IT department where 90% of the staff has iPhone 4's and we've done all sorts of ad hoc benchmark tests. Most of the staff are wishing they could get out of their AT&T contracts and go droid, namely because of the incredible. Yeah, it's 3G, but I haven't found that to be a problem. Using WiFi when available really flies, and saves battery too. You should, however turn off the WiFi when there isn't a signal, because it drains the battery when searching for signal.
I really liked the iPhone before I got this, now I'm totally happy with what I've got.

I have the Droid X and I'm really happy with it. Does all that I need it to do, it's not too big, holds a charge, makes calls really well. I"m sure I don't use all that it has to offer, but for me it works very well....

I do not own, nor have tried the Droid-X.

I have owned and used the Droid Incredible since May. I love it.

In my opinion as an enduser, I can think of no way in which my iPhone is bested by the Droid X, other than in the important category of quality of the telephony - and I would suggest that this is network related rather then an inherent quality superiority in the Droid X.

Basically, I only use the Droid X because the Verizon coverage is better where I live and work, and I lament not being able to use the iPhone 4 exclusively - I would retire the Droid X instantaneously if I could get 75% of the same network coverage out of the iPhone, but currently, I can not.

*EDIT*

Please note that the Verizon iPhone experience will not necessarily be the same as the AT&T iPhone experience. While the Verizon iPhone should perform better as a telephone (assuming you are in a good Verizon coverage area, and a marginal AT&T area) the Verizon iPhone will be different than the AT&T iPhone. Verizon's CDMA g3 is a much slower network than AT&T's G3. Verizon has been rolling out LTE (G4) coverage in some markets, and it is blazing fast, but the Verizon iPhone does not support LTE. Also, the Verizon iPhone will only work domestically on the Verizon network, and will be somewhat useless if you travel abroad and need to roam. CDMA is not widely supported outside of domestic Verizon coverage.

My wife and I have HTC/Desires (US Cellular). We both love 'em.

Angry Birds is deifnitely a must have. Google Goggles is very cool as well, it's still in testing but its cool to show off/use. Actually any of the Google apps are well designed and very cool to use. The Skymap in particular is very neat.

The Droid X has superior sound quality for audio playback and telephony. The user interface is a bit awkward, but usable, and I managed to lock up the OS or the browser the second week I had it.

The same thing happened with my iPhone several times as well, including a LOS that was intermittent for more than a week and took twice as long for AT&T to admit. The sound quality of the iPhone is inferior to the Droid X.

The screen sizes are the difference between night and day. Many internet sites I had to enlarge on the iPhone I can read just as they are on the X.

I dropped AT&T due to lack of 3G coverage in my area. Verizon coverage is 100% in this area.

I've had the original Droid since the day it was introduced. I use it a lot for streaming music as well as the internet, gps, etc. The bigger screen on the X would be something I would be interested in. The smaller screen on the Incredible would stop me in my tracks no matter what the interface was. Both phones are very fast, speed isn't an issue with either of them. Unlike the iPhone, both these mobile phones work when you leave the house! What a novel idea.

My iPad takes care of any screen size issues - none of the smart phones have enough screen real estate to do much of anything effectively.

How's the call quality on that iPad?

My wife and I love our Incredibles. I just put in a 32gb sd card and I have a ton of music on there now. Life is good. Other than Angry Birds (a must have) I like PowerAmp as the Mp3 player, Handcent for the Texts, NFL Mobile and NHL Gamecenter (if you like those sports). I most certainly not be moving to an Iphone even though I'm a mac guy. These android phones are pretty fantastic.

Is there a new Incredible around the corner?

I'm probably going to go ahead and pick up the Incredible...I can get one for free upgrade through Best Buy right now.
