View Full Version : Bassman/Bandmaster speaker impedence

I'm in the market for either a Bassman or Bandmaster head to use as a backup for gigging. I might even use it as a primary amp when the venue calls for something a little more powerful than my 20 watt TopHat Club Royale. My question is this: as the speaker output on a Bassman or Bandmaster head is 4 ohms and my speaker cab (1 X 12") is 8 ohms, would I be safe from damaging the OT with this combination?

Also, as the speaker cab has 2 jacks (I'm assuming wired in paralel), could I run the 4 ohm output into the first cab and then connect the second jack of the cab to another 8 ohm 1 X 12' cab to produce the ideal 4 ohm impedence?

Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend against running a vintage Fender amp that wants to see 4 ohms into an 8 ohm cab.

If you have two 8 ohm cabs and the appropriate jacks (test to make sure they're in parallel...) then the daisy chain will work, but it might be a whole lot easier to just plug both 8 ohm cabs directly into the back of the amp. Both Bassman and Bandmaster have two speaker jacks wired in parallel, so a pair of 8 ohm cabs will get the desired 4.

Thanks Todd,

I never even thought about the fact that there's 2 output jacks on the heads. It would be much simpler to run each output into an 8 ohm cab.

I have a Bassman RI that I am going to replace the speakers on. I am getting ready to purchase the new Weber/Lord Valve DT10s.

Does anyone know the load that this amp is looking for? I had heard that its 4ohms. What ohm speakers should I get? Is a Bassman RI wired in series or parallel?

Thanks...Dave
