This is a tough game for me as these are my two favorite teams for the last 37 years.
Watching the Steelers against Baltimore I gotta say this - Samoan Hair Ball better stop praying on the field and start T-A-C-K-L-I-N-G. This hit-and-hope-he-falls stuff is played.

The Jets do have a few things working for them but they are not gonna run on the Steelers like they did on NE or Indy.
So, can the arm of Sanchez win? Actually now that I thought about it, I believe the Steelers will crush them.

Any combo of teams left here seems like it would make up a good superbowl. Who would have thought that early in the season as Jay Cutler got sacked what like 10-12 in that one game would the Bears be in the final championship game? Though the obvious to me seems like it would be Packers/Steelers I'm done trying to figure it out. Being an Insulin dependent diabetic and the because of the daily grief and struggles I go through everyday I'd love to see Cutler in the big game just because he has it also. Not sure really how he is playing football still all together let alone at the level he is? Diabetes is serious shit! As far as the Jets they were my pick at the beginning so gotta route for the Jets.

That's what I'm hoping for.........
However, it could be a tough game for we Pittsburghers to watch. As much as we love our Steelers, there are a LOT of Packers fans here. I remember about 10 years ago we played the Packers on a Monday night game. The afternoon of the game, you saw just as much green/yellow attire walking around the city as you did black/gold. I think that cultrually the two cities are very similar, so we don't have the "hatred" for the Packers like we do for the Ravens.......... However, we'l still kick your butts if we meet at the Bowl :Spank
If somehow the Jets manage to beat the Steelers (and the Pack wins), I'll be wearing my green and gold while watching the Super Bowl.

This is going to be a close, low scoring game. I say Pittsburgh gets more scoring opportunities, but Jets do a better job of converting opportunites into TDs with their playmakers.

The Jets are going to pull this thing off because.....
Their secondary is playing off the charts.
Revis will shutout one of the Steeler receivers.
Other teams can't run the ball on the Jets.
Steelers secondary isn't that good even with the Polamalu playing.
Steelers will win if the Jets turn the ball over. If the Jets don't then your score is Jets 24-Steelers 17.

Well the Steelers won't run it on the Jets either and i don't see them passing it on the Jets either. Manning and Brady didn't, so Rothlisburger won't.
And the BIG factor is the Steelers offensive line. It's in bad shape right now. Big Ben was banged around a lot by the Ravens.

POLO didn't play when The Jets won at Pittsburgh back in December...Without him in the lineup, Pittsburgh's a different team...Aaron Smith also might be back for this game after being out over 15 weeks ago with a torn biceps suffered against The Dolphins....Here's hoping Pittsburgh pulls this one out and goes on to play for their 7th Title!

With the way Ziggy Hood is playing, I doubt Aaron Smith will play next week. I love Aaron Smith, and in the past when he went down there was a big dropoff in the run defence. Hood really came in to his own this year and the run D is as stingy as ever, maybe even more so.

There will be a mysterious call by the officials that no one will see. They will study the video and repeat it over and over again from all angles and no one will see it except the officials. It will be totally absurd and it will happen at a very inopportune time for the Jets. Thus, Pittsburgh will be handed another championship.

I think its gonna be another close game but I really think it'll end on a Steeler field goal in the waning seconds.
As a pats fan, I'm good with either team progressing to the super bowl. I'm also hoping either will lose to the Packers. :P
I sure hope it's the Steelers, but the Jets' D sure looked good in that game. Gotta thanks the Jets for bringing us another home game, though! :)

Should be a close and very hard fought contest. I like the Steelers chances more with a healthy Polamalu and TE Heath Miller added to the mix.
LeBeau will bring blitzes from another dimension and I expect Sanchez to get confused and throw a couple picks.
The difference in this game is QB play and I give Roethlisberger the nod.

Steelers aren't dinged up other than McFadden. He will be a big miss if he can't go. He plays great in big games. Aaron Smith might even go!
Of course, the O-line is thin all year because of early injuries, but there are no new ones.

Jet fan here and I agree that the tripping thing WAS a scummy thing to do. However, before the game yesterday, Charlie Casserly showed a video of a couple of Pats players attempting to trip a Jets gunner during the first regular season game they played. Now, I only mention the Pats because the tape was shown yesterday, but if you think the Jets are the only team that does/tried to do something like this, you're kidding yourself.
Again, I don't condone the action and think the coach should be fired...just sayin'.

I did. I think the tape that Casserly showed pre-game will knock it down or eliminate it entirely (at least the portion that related to the complaint....not the trip itself). I'm pretty sure the crux of the fine relate to the trip itself, but I'm sure they were none too pleased with the mention of another team!

Chung has the discretion to do what he did, and the Pats were desperate at the time of the foolishness. The other, more systematic foolishness was Brady throwing to nowhere a couple of times.

My prediction:
Hines Ward does a crack back block on Revis that knocks him out of the game.
Woodley and Harrison take cheap shots all day long on Sanchez, leaving Rex Ryan speechless. Then at a critical moment in the game, Polomalu will pick off a pass or cause a fumble to clinch the game.
Roethlisberger will turn in a workman like performance on offense, completing barely over 50% of his passes, but when he does its for a big play. Last, Mendenhall will put up enough yards to keep the pass rush honest.
Steelers 20
Jets 13
Steelers D is on another level in the playoffs, this is not the Patriots D, which is basically in a rebuilding mode right now.

So, the Jets were lucky the first time around? I would agree...this game will come down to the turnover battle, but for anyone to imply the Jets were lucky when they beat the Steelers is not accurate. Very seldom do teams get "lucky" at Heinz Field....
I think this game is a bit of a toss-up...2 VERY good teams going at it....if anyone can develop a scheme to disrupt Big Ben, its Rex.
And to be honest, I think the Jets are a better team than the Raven anyway.....

When I watch them play, it is like a watching a real hard fought high school game, except the talent level is way higher. I love watching that type of football. If the refs call stupid penalties, it isn't the steelers fault. This hating is just stupid. Sorry. By the way, I saw the "immaculate reception", the most heads up play I've seen, except for recent Polamalu plays.

All comments in Blue fixed to represent reality...
My prediction:
Hines Ward does a crack back block on Revis that knocks him out of the game.
(Corrected for reality: Mr. Hines Ward will show, once again why he is the model of a modern, complete football player, and perhaps the toughest athlete in all pro sports while simultaneously avoiding the entire defensive secondary's attempts to hold him, trip him, and cripple him with illegal helmet to helmet hits... He will again turn in yet another H.O.F. performance--and the Jets Secondary will not collect their cash bounty for injuring Hines.)
Woodley and Harrison take cheap shots all day long on Sanchez, leaving Rex Ryan speechless. Then at a critical moment in the game, Polomalu will pick off a pass or cause a fumble to clinch the game.
(Corrected for reality: Harrison and Woodley will show another national audience why they are the heart of the league's finest linebacker corps; with text-book perfect, hard nosed, 100% clean tackles. They will do this all while being either held, tripped or poked in the eyes on every play. Harrison will be penalized and fined for throwing an empty Gatorade cup on the sidelines...)
Roethlisberger will turn in a workman like performance on offense, completing barely over 50% of his passes, but when he does its for a big play.
(Corrected for reality: Big Ben, falsely accused by opportunists, railroaded by the league, crucified by the sensationalist media, abandoned by bandwagoners in his own city, completely unprotected by the officials, subjected to after the whistle hits, hits to the head, nose breaking cheap shots, a broken foot and playing with an offensive line riddled with injuries, will do what Ben has always done: win.)
Last, Mendenhall will put up enough yards to keep the pass rush honest.
(Well, you got this one right.)

Steelers D is on another level in the playoffs, this is not the Patriots D, which is basically in a rebuilding mode right now.

Well this scenario did not play out. The Jets started out totally ineffective for the first 28 or 29 minutes. From there on, they dominated the game, nearly staging the greatest comeback in playoff history, but ran out of steam and fell short with only 19 unanswered points. Very poor clock management on their last scoring drive took away any chance of winning. Congrats to the Steelers, a team which under many circumstances I'd be happy to root for. Just not this time. Go packers!

I think the unsung hero was unquestionably the Steelers offensive line, which entirely dominated the first half. In fact, the Steelers really dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball long enough for them to win.
We should see an entirely different game indoors in a couple weeks vs. the slop we saw in both games yesterday. Expect Rodgers & Ben to both play better, and it should be a fantastic game... which is all I could hope for. IMHO, it's a toss-up.

Steelers offensive line, and thusly the running game, DOMINATED the Jets in the first half and kept the Jets offense off the field. Pretty hard to score if you're chilling on the sideline.
I thought Sanchez played incredibly well and fought back through crazy adversity. I think he's a special player and overall, seems like a good human being. The fight and tenacity the Jets displayed in the 2nd half was pretty amazing and they shut the Steelers down. 24 - 3 is too big a hole to come back against one of the best defenses in the game, but they still almost did it.
Steelers and the Pack are the best two teams in the NFL this year and deserve to be in the big game. Props to both.
PS: Ryan is like that one big, doofus buddy everyone has in high school. He drives you crazy, but it's occasionally entertaining to keep him around.

I'd criticize that throw on 3rd down they called when they were on the 2 yard line driving for the tying score.
I'd also criticize their clock management. A QB shouldn't have to be running to the sidelines frantically calling for the play in the late stages of a championship game.

I agree. Why they didn't run the ball four straight times on the goal line??? I'd like the ask the guy calling the plays for sure. That wasn't the tying score though. It would have been 24-17 if they had scored. Turned it over on downs, got the safety and scored the TD on the drive on the free kick from the safety.

Ugh...I don't blame Rex on that one...I blame Schotty...man he seems to come up small when it counts most. The only positive I took away from that debacle was Sanchez really came up big after he got crushed. He had a great 2nd half. The Steelers figured that they had this one in the bag at halftime - why else would they go so heavy on the "run" in the second half??? Big Ben only tossed a very few passes in that second half, and the Steelers successfully executed their obvious 2nd half plan of burning that clock down to ZERO on the Jets... It was sort of a "prevent offense", and it worked like a charm... I can't help but wonder what the final score would've been had the Steelers put the pedal to the metal in that 2nd half... :)

Not from where I was sitting, standing, jumping up and down. Ben was amazing. That last key play was vintage Rothlisberger--it broke down, his receiver was covered, so he scrambled until somebody else ran into view, and he zinged it complete to the rookie WR to seal the game.

I said the clock mgmt was bad on the Jets last scoring drive. They were extremely slow getting in and out of the huddle and wasted a huge amount of time. They would have had more of a chance to get the ball back again if they has been quicker on that drive.

jtm622 (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/member.php?u=30529) has it right. The Steelers care about the W or the L... nothing else. When they NEED it... they have the offense. The year they made it to the superbowl and won as a 6th seed wildcard taught me a sneaky strategy. They spent 3 quarters keeping it close and not loosing the game. 4rth quarter they'd open it up and take the chances needed to pull it off. Typically they were successful. Just because they didn't score in the second half, don't put that on the Jets D fence. I put that on Pittsburgh playing don't loose the game. I the end, when they needed the yards, needed the plays, they suddenly started making the first downs again.
