This is our second official Black Cat Pedals Tour Box here on The Gear Page. This time the Tour Box will include (drum roll, please)… the Black Cat Custom Bee Buzz and Black Cat Mini Trem. These are our two newest pedals; the Bee Buzz being part of a limited custom run of 50 and the Mini Trem is the latest addition to our standard line of Black Cat Pedals.

Okay, here's how it works... Participation in this Tour Box is limited to the first 10 people who reply to this thread. We tried it with 20 last time and it got a bit unwieldy, so we’re closing the list at 10. If there’s enough interest, we’ll do another round when this tour ends.

Okay, this is important – please read the following requirements before posting your initial reply...

* First, for this Tour Box, participation is limited to people currently located in the USA (apologies to everyone else, we'll catch up with you another time).
* Participants should have a minimum of 50 posts OR be a Supporting Member of The Gear Page.
* Once you have posted in this thread and claimed your spot, please email me (info@formusiciansonly.com) with your name, address, phone number, and forum ID.
* The Tour will go in the order of the first reply of each participant.
* Each participant agrees to keep the pedals for a period of no longer than 5 business days.
* Each participant agrees to ship the pedals at his own expense to the next person on the list (the name and address of the next person on the list will be provided to the individual participants).
* The method of shipment will be UPS, FedEx, or USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. When the pedal is shipped, at the end of the 5 day trial period, the participant agrees to forward tracking info to both myself and the next recipient of the Tour Box.
* Finally, I have to ask, PLEASE... if you don't think you'll be able to follow the above guidelines, please do not sign up for the Tour Box. These guidelines help ensure the safest, most trouble-free and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

So that's about it. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to share their experience and impression of the pedals. Remember, not everyone will be able to participate in this tour, so there will be others who will appreciate your commentary while they GAS vicariously with great envy.

Okay, ready? Let the fun begin!!!

Guys, you're not in until you email me your info (info@formusiciansonly.com)... otherwise, how does the guy ahead of you know where to send the pedals? :dunno

Okay, info on the pedals - there's a thread in this sub-forum all about the Mini Trem, or you can read about it here (http://blog.formusiciansonly.com/2011/01/introducing-black-cat-mini-trem.html).

Here's some info on the Bee Buzz:The Black Cat Custom Bee Buzz is our version of the original Roland Bee Baa. The project began as a special request from our Japanese distributor, who pre-ordered twenty pedals, sight unseen. This gave us an opportunity to experiment with doing a larger scale run of custom pedals.

We acquired an original Roland Bee Baa from a collector friend and good customer. This assured that we would have an accurate reference for the original circuit. But we quickly noted many areas in the original Bee Baa that needed improvement, such as excessive noise and lack of balance between the tone settings. In addition, the "Treble Boost" in the original Bee Baa was not a feature that most players found useful. So we worked on making a boost mode that would appeal to the modern guitarist.

Sorry for the delay folks, I went to see Tom to get some swag to add to the Tour Box before I send it to Bobby D. I will send it tomorrow. Now, here comes my thoughts about the two pedals. I wish I could do a good video but the phone just doesn't cut it.

Mini Trem, I don't use tremelo a lot but I would with this thing. It is very transparent, looks cool as hell and has extra features that I believe no other companies have. First off the clarity is awesome, it has a tone control that can give you from very dull to very bright tremolo sounds and all in between, a boost control to adjust for signal balance, trem speed and depth controls. The depth control all the way down and boost up can give a pretty cool volume increase giving a sort of hollow sound and you can adjust the tone to get it more or less bright, pretty cool. With it all the way up gives you chest thumping but very clear trem that makes the room pulsate. Using the speed footswitch can go from whatever the speed is set to half time. All in all this is a serious tremelo to be respected. Sound 1st, looks 2nd, this has them both. Nice job guys

Now on to the Bee Buzz (my new favorite pedal to get). I think you all will have some serious fun with this as it is extremly flexable in all aspects. Lets start with Fuzz sounds(Right LED red), with the Bright switch off (to the left) volume to taste and treble down around 2 and Sustain around 7 to max it has serious Violin sustain and will sing for days, flick the bright switch on and it get that nasty fuzz for old classic tones. Roll the sustain down and kick on to your favorite already overdriven amp and it will floor you. Rolling back the volume works extremely well and cleans up great. You can also get some slight octave sounds with the bright switch on and neck pickup rolling back the volume control on the guitar and adjsuting the sustain knob. The Boost function which you can toggle back and forth with Right Ftsw(Green LED) is really cool, only the sustain and boost controls work with this function so you can get a good balance between the modes. It has a cool breakup that you could use for rock/blues and change sides for leads. It goes from pretty clean to mid fuzz crunch on a clean amp. I have tried alot of fuzzes lately, cheap and expensive ones and none have the flexability this one has. It can be dialed in to be more crunchy than fuzz and be a full blown thick or thin fuzz. It has a lot of treble on tap so watch the ears when playing loud. :) Again it looks cool as hell and is really quiet. I played both pedals through a Marshall Bluesbreaker Head and Splawn 2x12 cab with Mojotone 30watt speakers and a Floyd rose guitar with Dimarzio 36 anniversary bridge and area 67 neck.

yes indeed! BIG fan of the original BeeBaa fuzz, and that's the main reason i signed up for this tourbox.

just got the box a few minutes ago, at first glance the pedals look really cool, very professional finish and packaging.

will demo them this weekend, get some videos uploaded to my youtube, and send them on the way to the next stop! :JAM

the missing box HAS been located, this time it's going FEDEX -- i had been using the same little "mom n pop" store that had a USPS window for over three years now.....and they suddenly CLOSED UP - luckily i knew the manager of the place, and had his cell number. the box was inside and had not been picked up. :facepalm:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm

it's not USPS's fault......with these little corner shipping places, i guess you never know. but i have been shipping stuff there for three years, at least a couple times per month. :jo

I'm a bit of a trem junkie and I must say that the trem looks really cool. I love that it has boost and tone controls. IMO volume adjustment on a trem is a must have otherwise on certain settings you can get a perceived volume drop. I can get the idea of the tone control too..clever.

Personally rather than a full/half-speed switch I wish someone would do a switchable "stutter" mode which automatically switched the pedal to full depth mode for dramatic effect. Still, can't be a high demand for that idea because nobody does it!

Anyway, seeing as I'm in Australia I'm unlikely to get to audition one of these before buying so I'd really like to hear what you all think of it.

What you're saying is a footswitch to change from whatever you have the depth set at, to depth at maximum? A cool idea. That would be easy enough to do. sort of an "intensity" switch.

Sorry for the delay. I sent the Black Cat Custom Bee Buzz and Black Cat Mini Trem to wingwalker.
First impressions out of the box is nice looking pedals. I like the layout of both, pretty simple to figure out.
The Bee Buzz made me dip into playing some old Montrose actually, not what I would expect to play with a fuzz but I was getting some of those tones. Seems pretty versatile in the tones. The toggle changes it up from more warm to more nasty. Could be good for different applications. Plenty of tweaks to keep fuzz heads busy for a while.
I did feel the clean boost colored my tone on the Bee Buzz.
The mini trem was really tweakable and I was able to get what I personally like on a trem, a nice throbbing trem. Real easy to dial in warmth and "thump" with this pedal or really subtle trem, all sounding organic and rich. The two speeds may come in handy for people who need the application. I'm a set it and forget it kind of guy so this feature is not something I would use. Both nice pedals

Thanks for letting me partake in the tourbox, greatly appreciated.

Good timing too as I'm rehearsing tomorrow night and I have a show Thursday. I'll report in when I've spent some time with it.

Tom I wouldn't mind knowing some more details about the Bee Buzz boost section. So is it a full-range sort of boost or? Is it intended to be a transparent sort of deal or more of a character inducing sort of thing?

I had a Bee Baa years ago and have always regretted selling it although I got a fair bit of coin for it at the time.

Hey Realfi! That's a great shot of the Mini Trem, and a cool idea you had for the mod.

About the Bee Buzz, the boost is definitely "character inducing" (I like that term). Here's a very short, kind lo-fi on the fly YouTube demo to give you an idea.

Thanks for the reply Tom.

That's just an iPhone pic actually. I'll dig out an SLR over the weekend and take some better ones with my board for your FB page. I'm gonna watch that YouTube demo to get an idea of what the boost does in the Bee Buzz too as it has my interest!

Anyway, I gigged my Mini Trem last night for the first time last night I thought I'd report in. The amp was my AC30 and I played both a CS Tele and a Teo Mando guitar. It was used both clean on it's own and in conjunction with a Timmy, a Klon and a Diamond Memory Lane Jr.

Initial impressions are that it's very good. Mine is a custom version where the two speed ranges normally accessed via the "speed" footswitched are on a mini toggle and the normal fast/slow speed switch actually swaps between the knob set depth setting, and a preset full depth (chop) mode.

Firstly let me say I LOVE the fact that there is a boost/volume control. Many trems create the impression of a drop in volume at certain settings -certainly not what you want, but by the same token for more subtle uses you also don't neccessarily want a preset big volume jump a la the Demeter Trem or the early Fulltone Supa Trems. The only other trem I now have, a Telenordia TT3 also has a volume and I now consider it a must.

The tone control is another nice inclusion. Moving this control to about 1 o'clock and engaging a bit of modulated delay from Diamond Memory Lane Jr produced a really pretty, ethereal tone from the Mando guitar keeping all of that instrument's characteristic chime and shimmer. I found with the tele a slight roll back of the tone control from that position created a satisfyingly full and romantic throb.

I must admit I'm not sure about my custom request of the full depth mod as to be fully realised I think maybe you really need an additional volume setting to balance things out with the 'normal' mode. I'll see how I go with more time to experiment though.

I'm also not sure I really have the coordination to hit the single switch that happens to be my target in the 'heat of battle' reliably on a dual switch pedal with such a narrow footprint. Last night I had the pedal on the back row of my pedaltrain. Perhaps my accuracy might improve somewhat if I can find it a front row seat. The again maybe the Black Cat folks could look at the idea of a sideways orientation as Rockett have done with the Josh Smith Trem in an effort to get the buttons some distance from one another. It's all a trade off for pedal baord space of course so no doubt some folks who are less clumsy than me will love it how it is.

It's gonna take a while for me to get a really good idea of the intrinsic tone of the Mini Trem compared to others I've had/have so maybe I'll report back again later.

Both pedals rocked! The Bee Buzz was very versatile with many different distortion/fuzz sounds and settings. The Mini Trem offered up some smooth tremolo as well as hard, choppy Vox-style trem that I love so much! The boost feature is also very useful.

I did a quick demo last night featuring both pedals. Here's the link in case the embed doesn't work: http://youtu.be/prPw7PDlSKQ - Though it is a short and simple demo, it should give you a good idea of just what these pedals are capable of. I hope the end of the demo doesn't give anyone Vietnam flashbacks!

This was fun for us to be a part of the Tour Box 2011. We look forward to more in the future!

Tour box received! These are definitely cool pedals. The half-speed switch on the trem is an awesome feature... and it is really pretty. It sounds killer, and I like the versatility - slow warbly throbs to machine gun. The fuzz is pretty cool, still tweaking it to find new sounds. It has mega-sustain and feedback fun!

Just heard from DeaconBlues yesterday saying he received the Tour Box. After he's finished it goes to the last Tour Box participant, markw1980...
