if u want volume/mids/sustain into a dirty/cranked tube amp add a tubescreamer etc.

whats the most popular kind of boost when using say a clean twin and using a TS thing (compressed/mid heavy) od for a dirt sound but then want to boost it for leads...

another TS or something loud/mid norm like an ocd?

if you just want a volume lift something like an RC Booster AFTER the TS.

im thinking fat boost or ocd for more volume/gain! or put the eternity in the front and boost the middy hell out of it!

Uh....have you just not tried putting the pedals you own in your signal chain and trying them out?

You already have a variety of some of the better boosts and ods available.

I mean, you would know what's best for you, right?

yeah i have played just about every combo there is! but im still told that my solos dont stand out and just sound too much like the rest of the band volume wise, and i can never hear the overall mix when playing live... im always on stage getting killed with symbols and vocals and things. just going off audience feedback.

to get more volume out of your TS then you need a boost after the TS. Putting a boost before the TS will give more gain and perhaps more mids. This might help you cut a bit better but it won't be dramatic. I'd suggest you try the following as boosts after the TS...

eternity set as a clean boost
Barber LTD
Fulltone FatBoost
Silver Kiss

Any of those might work. Play around and see what you like.

will do! i always hated putting boosts before dirt pedals in the chain cause im a knob kicker when it comes to live playing i would always have a volume increase by 10,000! but im gonna have to settle down and deal!

I use a Barber Launch Pad if I need a boost for solos - great pedal. It's pretty transparent.

so the jist of the chain would go

BOOST4SOLOS-TS DIRT

or

TS DIRT-BOOST4 SOLOS

ugh. put the boost after the dirt if you want the solo to be louder. put the boost before the dirt if you want the solo to be driven harder / distorted. i can't believe you have such a tremendous amount of drives and boosts sitting in your house and you haven't figured this out yet.

im confused as to what people mean about before and after, i'll be a bit clearer.

amp - ts - boost - guitar?

amp - boost - ts - guitar?

Guitar > low gainer > TS > amp. This works for me, as the low gainer (which I leave on all the time) won't bury the vocals. I like to use the TS for a solo boost, because the mids are what cut through (just like what the singer is trying to do). The key, for me, is to keep gain levels on both pedals kind of low, so that I can have both pedals on at once and get a nice fat lead tone.

"Before" means earlier in the chain, starting with the guitar, ending with the amp.
Guitar into boost into TS into amp = more drive, sustain since the boost pushes the front end of the TS and enhances its effect.
Guitar into TS into boost into amp means you "boost" the volume of your TS but don't compress or shape it further.
At least that's been my experience. I like to use a TS with a little grind into a dirty channel amp to give leads a more liquid, singing, sustaining quality. I also have a clean boost at the end of my signal into the amp for a pretty straight volume boost for clean sounds. It can add a little grunt as well by driving tubes depending on your settings, but generally a clean, dry volume lift.
Hope that helps.
