View Full Version : How do you deal with power on the floor?

What is your solution to using a midi controller or even standard floorboard that requires power? I assume you end up just plugging the wallwart into a standard heavy duty extension cable back towards your amp? I no this is a sill question, but for some reason it really bothers me lol. Anymore elegant solutions (I know GSP1101 uses Cat5 and AxeFX send power over 7 Pin midi cable). Just curious to see what you are doing, pics are cool too!

One 7pin midi cable, phantom power to the controller. Done.

Roland FC-300 has a dual power source: 9V wall-wart or 6xAA batteries.
At home I always run the FC-300 on the wall wart.
Out, I'll run it on batteries if there's not a convenient path to power on the stage.
I also have a DC power extension cord that a local film maker gave me. I can use that to avoid running AC line cords across the stage.

Converted my footcontroller to use pins 1 and 5 (normally unused) for phantom power, made a switching regulator circuit from about $5 worth of parts and set to making one big nasty cable that carries MIDI in and out, power, two additional switches (tap tempo and tuner) and one external TRS for an additional expression pedal (red cable that disappears out of the picture on the right).

So, the singular gray cable... is that just a CAT5 cable with the RJ45 ends stripped off or is it some other multiconductor cable?

Phantom power over 7 pin midi.
Works great.

I don't actually have one of these but, I've been wanting one for a while for my analog pedal board + amp rig. I imagine you could get one for just about any floor rig you have...

For gigs I velcro my RP355 onto my NYC pedalboard and plug the wallwart into the back of my PP2.

It's a cold war-era VGA cable. :) You know the old ones from the '80's that you could run about 30 feet.
I believe it had 14 conductors in it and I used all of them if memory serves correctly. I had it laying around in a cabinet somewhere and it's pretty robust and the conductors were good quality. Seemed like a shame to toss a perfectly good muliticonductor cable.

This.
It worked great with my old Ground Control Pro.

Scott, which 7-pin midi cable are you using for the MFC? Mine gave out on me last weekend.
