In a general sense. Options. Playability

IMO, they are comparable in overall quality, not enough to justify the CP's 2x price. But note that most folks replace the humbucker on the BT. And the JM bridge can be tricky.
There's a thread over at offsetguitars for you.

Thanks, I'm mulling over a purchase for my kid's school jazz band. If it gets stolen I'll be pissed but not crushed.

If it's for a student, you might consider a non-trem model, like the new VM Squiers. Or even a short scale Jaguar...

I like the BT jassmaster. I checked some videos on youtube and BT jassmaster is my favorite one of BT series.
But the weird thing is, I've been to about 3 or 4 guitar shops, including 2 GCs and PGS, but all of them didn't
have any BT jazzmaster in stock. So I never have a chance to try one. But I love what it sounds on youtube.
I've played a CP jazzmaster once in PGS. But that was my first time to play a jazzmaster, I couldn't quite
understand the controls. You can get pretty nice clean tone, and through the controls, you canget jazzy tone
also. But the output of the pups are too low for me. I thought they are P90s, but they aren't. But still a nice
guitar for the price $799.
If I have any chance to try a BT jazzmaster to make sure the sound is as the same as I heard from youtube, I
will go for it. For $499, it's a nice deal. The CP jazzmaster is good for the quality and the price also. But, these
two are different, you don't have the controls on BT jazzmaster to get a jazz tone, the neck pup is a humbucker,
different from the single-coil on the neck of CP one. IMO, both are nice deal, depends on what kind of tone you
like. For kid to play in a school band, BT jazzmater would be a nice choice.
