I have a very bright Fender amp and am going to replace the V1 preamp tube. Which one of these do you think would help most in warming up the amp and smoothing out some of the harsh highs?
- JJ ECC83-S
- Svetlana 12ax7
- TAD 7025s
any other suggestions of current production preamp tubes that might help? Thanks

It would help to know what brand/type you're replacing. It would be even more helpful for you to just try them all. There's nothing better than personal experience when it comes to subjective issues.

I'm replacing the stock GrooveTubes GT-12ax7-C.
I also just want to make sure I'm on the right track with these tubes before I buy them all.

Of the tubes you listed the JJ seems to be the darkest to me. Depending on which Fender amp you have, putting a JJ in V2 in addition to V1 may give you what you're looking for. As Mike said, tone is subjective so your mileage may vary but in general JJ's are darker/warmer.IMO of course.

I thought you already that them. The JJ is a good bet. In NOS, GE longplate or RFT.
