Yeah man! I guess that's how he does it: Get's a title or a concept, decides on syllables, sets the melody and then writes the words. Which makes a lot of ****ing sense.

You should check out the ...And Justice For All demo "Hammer of justice crushes you NA NA NA NA" hahaha....

Yep, still my favorite Metallica album.

Its neat that I kinda put the lyrics together the way James does.

Idea > Melody > Actual Lyrics

thanks for posting this. always interesting to hear famous tunes in development.
the "classic albums, paranoid" dvd has ozzy doing a similar thing;
the melody is there, but instead of "na na's", ozzy is singing improvised "stream of consciousness" lyrics.

justice had great tunes, but i can't stand the bassless mix.
my fave metallica is "garage, inc"; although there's some filler,
i love their older covers (blitzkrieg, the prince), and really love what they did to the sabs/mercyful fate/blue oyster cult tunes.
i like their best covers better than their best originals.

Makes a lot of sense to construct a song in that way.

I had to laugh at the comment above w.r.t. Ozzy. I've been to a few Sabbath and Ozzy shows and I think he applies his "stream of consciousness" lyrics during live acts as well....lol.

Say what you want about the Hampster but nothing owns like old Metallica.
The riffs the leads the angst all there and all perfectly crafted imo.
2 things changed Metallica though: Cliff''s demise and James and Lars fascination with Radio Rock.

Here's some of what we missed on AJFA when they turned Jason's bass off. It's a damn shame, 'cuz he played his ass off here.

I made my own remix of the song by downloading this bass track off YouTube and mixing it in with the original recording. Sounds WAY better.
