Yep. Thanks to anybody who provided tips and tricks on how to do it.
I spent 2-3 hours sanding, cleaning, polishing and re-assembling the whole thing. I started with a 1500 grit 3M wet paper, then a 2000, and some polishing compound to finish the job... Im very happy with the results. The 1500 paper helped removing the orange-peel finish. I could have done similar with 0000 steel wool (I tried both in different areas with same results) but it left more steel wood residue, which I didnt liked.
Mine is a '07 model with 70s headstock. The body is black, I just turned the whole thing all-black (hardware and pickguard)... I love this 70s black strat look... pictures to come tonite !
