Cool read! Quick question...Do you have any info or tips on how to find out about auditioning for (insert whatever artist here) tours? I'm used to sidelining for people that come into my little town all the time(whether it be rock, funk, blues, jazz) but I really want to take that next step to the bigger leagues.

Thanks for any insight!

Just started a subscription, will look forward to your columns...

Also like your Youtube demos - you can tell Carl Martin they've sold at least one PlexiTone because of you. Doesn't sound as good with me playing through it, though... (definitely not the pedal's fault!)

Great column that applies to pros like Pete and weekend warriors alike.

I used a very similar approach last time I auditioned for a band. I had two weeks to learn 50+ songs, 1 rehearsal, and then showtime.

It was a lot of work but it was a blast.

Great article. Thanks for posting this.

I am curious, for that very first audition of 3-10 songs, do you get to play what you want, or do they have some popular-standard-hits-that-every-guitarist-should-know that they ask you to play?

Great advice, Pete. I'm cramming a cool sub gig as I type this and should probably read the paragraph about turning off the cell phone, closing the internet browser and focusing again until it sinks in.

Looking forward to future installments.

Useful and sage advice. IMO Premier Guitar is the best mag of its type right now.

Great column, I'll look forward to it each month. That's the same way I learn my songs each week, from iTunes into Transcribe until I learn the parts, I write'em out. Then I'll play the songs at 50%, 70% and then 100%. When I get them to 100% then it's just a matter of playing them over and over until I got it.

Great article Pete, thank you for your insight...I was handed 50 songs to know in 4 days recently and it completely overwhelmed to to the point where I had to turn down the gig. You really provided me with some help for future reference.

Great article! I downloaded a copy of Transcribe! and liked it so much that I convinced my guitar teacher to do the same. We used in during my lesson today. This may break him free of the cd player! I owe you for that!

Pete - nice article.

Lots of good advice - I at one point used my Mesa V-Twin pedal to learn songs quietly with headphones while my wife watched TV - plugged cassette deck/CD player into it and played along...took me a little while to figure out but it worked. Down side was I learned a bunch of tunes for a band that never gigged out...
