how, when, where, why do you use batteries with your effects ?

I keep a couple in my gear bag in case of power supply failure. Otherwise, no. I kinda hate 'em. Bad for the environment, inconsistent tone and more expensive over time than a good power supply.

I still use 'em. Although My Shape EQ eats them pretty fast. I've been thinking about a PPII, but it's not first on my list of things to do.

Batteries suck. Give me regulated power!!!

Turbo Tuner requires them. Other than that, no.

My turbo tuner uses batteries (since it only eats it when on anyway). Saves me one out.

Only in older circuit design pedals ala fuzz face and 60's wah.

I use batteries for my GPS.

I prefer the sound of my compressor with batteries. It must be getting more voltage because the LED is brighter than with the power supply. It feels spongier with the battery. No, I'm not Eric Johnson! :hide2

I use them with my vintage FX's.

in my sunface, and i'm happy to report that the battery does not drain if the plug is in the output but not the input. since it's first in my chain the input is never plugged unless i'm actually using it.

Only for fuzzes - Das Fuzz Ge & Fullton 70. I've been using regular alkaline, but want to try Carbon Zinc's just to see the difference.

Otherwise, no batteries.

I use crappy, cheap batteries in my fuzzes. But ll my other pedals, I use my PP2.

I use them in my Fuzz face clone (positive ground) and any pedal that I take by itself like a tuner or delay when I do acoustic or stripped down guitar into amp things.

Batteries for any kind of OD (including fuzz)...wall-wart or other external power source for delays/chorus/flanging, etc.

I use batteries in all of my fuzz pedals. I use a Visual Sound One-Spot to power the rest...

Only for my fuzzes, and I put them first in the chain, so the input is not plugged into...only uses the battery power when I'm playing.

Only in my tuners: Turbo Tuner and Boss TU 3

Yes. But only because I have two pedals, and one came with a power supply.

So buying a dedicated power supply isn't worth it yet.

there are four in my utility case at all times.
if there is some sort of ground issue or buzzing, like one place I went for an informal jam, I've put them in and it reduced the hum.
Also, he was running way too many piggie backed power hookups - limited circuits. That's actually what started me in on putting batteries there. I only needed one outlet space after that.

No; why do more damage to the environment because I think my fuzz tone sounds a little bit better? And what Turbo Tuner requires batteries? Older model, or non-stomp one?

Fuzz Faces sound better with a battery.

Never.
Since I have my pedals on the pedal board and don't wan't to unplug them to save battery when I don't play.

Then I guess you better stop using vacuum tubes and go to solid-state, too. ;)

I have a small 3-pedal Boss board that has on it a TU-2 tuner (which daisy chains power to other effects)> an "open" spot#2 for either a Chorus, Trem, or Phaser I will just pick ONE for a gig> #3 is a DD-3> Fender Amp. So I run any OD/distortion (s) I may chose just on battery, before the Boss board. Works great fo rme!

about half and half here. the pedals that reside on my board use the power supply but most of my od's and fuzzes use batteries.

Since all I use is one vintage TS9... it would be stupid for me not to use batteries since wall warts/power supplies would be bigger and more cumbersome then my entire "pedal board"

I use only batteries for some pedals (certain fuzzes) or if I need extra power to add a pedal onto my board. Beyond that, I think they're a pain.

I don't use a board, so batteries all the time. It annoys me when pedal makers build stuff without a battery option.

Well, my 'fuzz' doesn't even have a battery compartment, and the bottom plate of my Fulldrive is rusted shut, so I have to use a power supply.

I think of it as cleaning up Earth's clutter a little when I don't use a battery. :P

I use batteries exclusively. The only exception is if I use my Delay.

I don't wanna be that ass that shows up to a jam and has to plug an adapter into the wall. Batteries for playing out, plugs for home.

For guys like myself that only use 2-3 low-draining pedals, batteries are the way to go. Less wires to fool with and they usually last quite a while. I usually check out the current draw when buying pedals. Dirt pedals arent a problem, modulations are usually ok. Delays are tricky, but I was surprised how long the DD7 lasted with battieries (though I used the looper much more than anything....not sure if that matters).

However, if I do get a larger pedal (Line6 modeler, DD20, stuff like that), I'd probably just grab an adaptor just for that pedal. One spots are good too.

Plus, as insane as it sounds, I've been in situations where finding an outlet meant having to put my board in weird places. With battieries, I can put it anywhere I want. My board is litterally a piece of stained wood though.

Bingo! me too.

I had Dan (this1smyne) build me a SHO clone, and asked him to install a battery clip as well as an external toggle to kill the signal--so I could leave it plugged in and not drain the battery. Worked great! Wished other guys did this. I hate plugging/unplugging inputs so much, as I worry about wearing out the jack.

I use the cheapo Sunbeam 2 for a buck batteries from the Dollar Tree for my dirt pedals and my wah pedals... everything else is adapter power.

my TT (not the stompbox one ) eats them even when the pedal lies unused in the box!

i use them in all fuzzes, and in most other pedals except delay and modulation peds. Nowdays, some gigs and jams have so little space that i can't take even a small pedalboard w/ power supply PP2 etc. So i lay the pedals right up against the amp, and delay in back w/ one wall wart. I hate wall warts , and would rather use batteries in OD pedals. It's not like they're on all night anyway. Electric cars, hybrids, solar panels etc use and cause WAY more environment disposal issues than small carbon/zinc batteries .In fact there's lots of misinformation and non scientific data today creating scare politics and manipulation than ever. Lots of these environmental issues are full of shallow logic and data.

I usually won't buy a pedal that can't take batteries (unless it's a delay etc)

Since I don't keep a hard-wired pedal board, I swap pedals in and out. Using batteries makes it much easier since I don't have to also swap wall worts or power cables.

And obviously for fuzzes I'll only use carbon-zinc batteries ;-)

I use batteries for fuzz, boost (carbon zinc), OD, wah (alkaline) and power supplies for modulation.
