Why would or did Fender make their Blackie reissues with Lace-Senor pickups? Seems a reissue of a famous 50s strat would make more sense to have vintage reissue 50s pickups and not modern! ...:huh

I don't know, but maybe because the Clapton signature models had Fender Lace-Sensors.

The original '88 Clapton Strat was not a re-issue of any previous model - It was Fender's first (IIRC) official "signature" model... It was a "new" design - with the input of Clapton... :)

It was not specifically "Blackie" that was produced. It was the EC Signature Strat with black ones having "Blackie" on the headstock, presumably because they were black. Basically an updated version of a Vintage Strat.
Fender have done a full on replication of the original Blackie with Vintage style pick-ups.
