ok so i have a tele that i got off a buddy.. it has a warmoth neck on it that is unfinished. im planning on spraying it with nitro which ive done to many necks in the past however they have always been brand new necks.
im worried that because this one's been played already it will have finger oils and other stuff in the grain.

wondering what everyone suggests i do before hand to prepare the neck? i know obviously any type of cleaner isnt the way to go as it will be in the wood as well when sprayed.. what about a wipe down with water and a light sanding?
im wondering if it has some sort of sealer on it right now.. its pretty smooth but IMHO definately needs a finish to be ideal

Scrub lightly with 0000 steel wool and see if the grime starts to go away. If it does not then there probably was not even a sealer coat on it.

make sure you sand to remove the oil/sweat because nitro won't finish smooth if there's any residue

Would cleaning it with lighter fluid (outdoors of course) be a good way of degreasing it?
