Ok Boys, men's dress socks.

I have all these old Gold Toe socks that were comfy, durable, and came in many colors and designs. I went to the store and all Gold Toe has apparently are black, brown, and beige. The prices have come way down (thankfully) but the selection is totally gone.

I'm looking for something of similar quality - no "boutique" socks - something I can find at Macy's, Nordstrom, Dillards, or I'll go to Target (do not do stores with "mart" in their name). In other words, something in the Boss to Fulltone line, not Digitech, and not Custom built or DIY :-)

I buy all my socks at The Gap. Underwear too - I just got some of the guitar/amp boxers from my wife as she picks that stuff up for me. I don't go clothes shopping much.

You would think BR's would be better then Gap, but for that stuff I find the Gap stuff fits me better.

Gold Toe sells all the colors @ JC Penny.com

Why not try another store?

Wait, you mean you actually have socks that match? And are part of a pair? Nine times out of ten when I do laundry I am always missing the mate to a pair. Drives Dave crazy...

For dress socks, I almost have to have over the calf, which makes them even harder to find.

target has great OTC socks for $2.50 a pair, they have ones with skulls on them, flamingos, fish, and your usual stripes and what-not.

Also, H&M have good socks usually on sale. Its hard to find thin, wool dress socks and they have them sometimes.

Seriously? Some of you guys do WAY too much thinking about stuff. ... socks? :huh Here's my criteria.

1.) They are dress socks
2.) They match each other
3.) They some what match the outfit
4.) The don't have too many holes in 'em.

done.

What you can do is buy like 10 pair of the same color.

Then you end up with extras as one gets lost but they always match.

these might be on the line of boutique, they are comfy and have a good selection.

Don't laugh, I've found that the black liner coolmax socks (black) at Gander Mountain work great for dress socks. I started wearing them one day when I couldn't find any socks so I went in my hunting clothes drawer and used a pair. I've been using them since...

This. I threw out all my dress socks about a year ago and bought 12 pair of the same black socks. No more trying to find a match.

My wife buys the multi pack of cheap ones and they end up bunched up around my ankles or worse, bunched up in my shoe. Help !

Right - which is why you need good dress socks - they stay up, and they're thinner so they don't make you go up a shoe size.

I've done the "buy multiples of the same style" to guarantee a matched pair, but for dress socks, I like to have different colors to match shirt, etc. In fact, often the more obvious the pattern, the easier it is to find the mate.

Just lately, I've noticed very little selection (outside of brown, black, and beige) at stores - need Navy, Olive, Grey, etc.

Nordstrom Rack is a good place to go; they usually have a good selection of both over-the-calf and "normal" length. I have also found some good deals at Marshall's & TJ Maxx. I will only buy socks with a high cotton content; as all the man-made fibers make my feet sweat too much.

It's interesting; I have spent $2k on a suit, $500 on a pair of shoes, $200 on a dress shirt, etc. But I can not buy into ultra-expensive socks.

yeah Im definitely not wearing black socks every day, or any day for that matter. Dressing oneself is really not that difficult.

Some dudes need adult garanimals it seems.

Totally in agreement here; I can't figure out why anyone would want something other than over the calf. I put them on in the morning, they stay up all day long.

Best ones I've found- Lands End merino wool OTC. Comfy and durable; not super cheap but not overpriced for what you get.

Smart Wool or Teko - boutique, maybe, but worth it.

I am very picky about my dress socks. I only buy over the calf, as I hate them drooping down around my ankles. The ones I buy are from Jos A. Bank's website. Their standar price is a bit steep, but if you sign up for their e-mailing list, you always get offers from them for sales.

They are typically $18 per pair, but I wait until a sale comes in (buy one get two free, or something similar) and can get them for between $6 and $8 a pair, then I just load up on them. The sales come up often, so just be patient.

Hope that helps.

+1 on the Jos A Banks....My Hanes and Fruit of the Looms became shoe polishing rags after my first Jos A. Banks t-shirt.

the only gold toes I know were black, brown and beige. Never seen any other colors, except white. White gold toes are the best socks in the world. I'm just about old enough that I don't have to care about scaring off hot 19 year old girls with my old man smell and white socks. I'm already invisible, might as well be comfortable.:rotflmao

Oh good lord. Get ten or twelve pair in black, blue, and maybe beige.

Anything else is just way too much effort to put into socks.

Smart Wool

Ditto, about $18 a pair but all I buy. They look good, feel great, and last forever. Seriously, I have two pairs I've worn almost every week for 10 years, and they're still in fine shape.
