what's your favorite guitar strings and why?

pyramid max performance. Cause they are the best sounding, best feeling, longest lasting strings I've ever played. Plus they are hand made in Germany and have silk wrapped ends, which is just freakin cool IMO.

Everly Music B-52's, made with "Alloy 52". They are bright, and sound BIG when you install them, and they last a good, long time. Great tone from these. They also have a good feel to them - not too stiff, or not too slinky. Can't find them in stores, so I get them from web site's. A bit pricey these days, as Everly raised the price for them - too bad.

Im not sure. Sounds funny, but I put some strings on 3 of my guitars at the same time with 3 different brands and found that one had the best feel and tone I have ever had. So Im in the process of buying the three different brands and trying them but I heavily suspect it DR Pure Blues. Before that it was Thomastik-infeld Blues sliders.

I use GHS on everything. Burnished Nickel on electric guitar: they are made for bending and I have B- and G-bender system on my guitar and these stay in tune better than any other string I've tried. I use White Bronze on my resonator guitar because they sound great and last longer than any other string I've tried on it. I use Infinity Bronze on my acoustic just because they sound good.

I put some daddarios with coating on my epiphone that I really like. The coating is very thin, but the strings are lasting a long time. They also don't seem as stiff as the elixers that I very briefly tried ( but maybe it was more the guitar). Good strings.

These.

The best feeling, sounding and lasting strings I have ever used, not to mention the cheapest. Simply unbelievable. It's quite amazing to me how good they make my cheap guitars sound, let alone how nice they are to play. The difference between these and the EB strings I was using before is quite remarkable. :aok

Snake Oil Brand Vintage here too (10-46). Yep, I'm a light sting playing girly man.

Biggest reason: consistent tone. They're not overly bright when new, but tone stays consistent as they age. I spend less time stringing up guitars and more time playing.

Curt Mangan 10 guage nickel plated. Sometimes the pure nickel.

Tell you're local store to Carry them! Curt's whippin the big boys butts as far as consistancy and how well they sound, feel and stay in tune.

I would call you a girly man, or to be more British, a pansy, for your string gauges, but I'm glad you also have such enlightened taste. ;):D:JAM

Hey, me too. I used to play with 12's. Then went to 11's...then had a wrist injury and I'm staying with 10's. I would rather jump off a bridge than go to 9's!

Gibson Vintage Reissue Nickel 10-46 on Les Pauls/humbucker guitars, Dean Markley nickel-steel electric 9-42 on Fenders/single coil guitars.

Currently trying a set of Elixir Nanowebs on my G0 -- had them on a couple weeks, not really warming up to them, sound or feel.

Big Mike is right. Formerly a DR pure blues player, but too many issues. (inconsistent and intonation issues.)
Got a sample of the Curt Mangan nickle plated and loved them. Pure nickel is good too, but harder to find.

BTW, one of the local stores carries the nickle plated. Easy to pick some up on the way home, etc.

i think Gilmour could play a broomstick trough a cleanex box strung with rubber bands and it would sound amazing....but i am skeptical about those endorsements deals...

Agreed! I just had to try them. The 10.5-50 seemed like the right recipe. Going back and forth between lime green slinkys 10-46 and skinny top heavy bottoms 10-52.

Diggin them!

Acoustic- DR sunbeams. Last long time, brings out a lot of tone. Electric- daddario jazz rock, I really like the gauge of these, and I've used daddario forever.

I usually buy two sets, and if memory serves I got out the door for about $11 last time.
If I'm in the neighborhood tomorrow I'll stop in and doublecheck.

oxtone, I just got back from the store. Bought two sets of B52s @ $5.50 each.
The store marks them at $10.99/set then gives a 50% discount.
Having checked the current online prices, I think the sticker price will go up a bit with the next batch, but they'll still do the discount.

[QUOTE=Luke V;10184159]Ernie Ball 10s for me too. Very consistant and you get them on sale at a great price.

This. I actually go on the GC or MF websites, download the item ad and carry it into a GC store where they match the price. Usually get a case of 12 sets for around $3.30 a set. Great strings for that price. I get about 3 gigs out of them and lot of practice time. They are very well made and consistant. They intonate every time and I only need to reset my intonation if I change string heights. I once had an issue with d strings breaking at the locking tuner post of a MM JP6. It could have been the strings or the tuner but to compensate, the company send me half a dozen .026 wound strings, a MM t-shirt and other assorted things.

Im not crazy about the tin foil packaging but I guess it doesnt hurt either.

I find D'Addarios to be the same way but prefer the EBs overall. I personlly cant see spending alot more money on strings especially coated. It gets too miniscule in the details to be worth alot more unless you want to string a gtr and leave a set on for several months or a year.

GHS Sub Zero Boomers for electrics and Laurence Juber Signature for Acoustics. If you think you know tone with non-cryo strings, then think again. These cryos squeeze out every ounce of tone there is to be had with plenty of punch to that.
