Guitar Trader in Red Bank NJ had one in stock for years back in the early to mid 80's. Like everyone else I ignored it and lived to regret it.

Original price on those in 1969 was $895. Adjusted for inflation that's about $5500 today. So, even at $6600 that's not a bad price. Too bad the guitar is all the way in Italy. If it was available locally I'd definitely take a look at it. Maybe I should just move to Italy...

Beautiful pieces. I believe they had a flat back.
When you see one in person, it will stop you dead in your tracks.

Absolutely stunning. I have never heard of this model before, what a beautiful guitar. If only I had $6600 spare bones. :(

There were 56 made in 1969, 71 made in 1970. That's it, Boys.
Fully Rosewood body. Pickups sat above the body.
This is what John D'Angelico would have built if someone asked for a Thinline. ;-)

A friend of mine has one; it's a gorgeous guitar.
He's not selling, though...I've asked!

That is just about the most inelegant mount I've ever seen for a pickup. Probably sounds groovy, though!

There was also a 1960 Crest version of the L5CT, only 6 were made. You can see a picture of it in Adrian Ingram's book of the L5 on page 67.

I stumbled upon this the other day. Looks awesome! Definitely unique. I'm surprised to see it's got a 1 11/16" nut for a '69.

This model was the first guitar Pat Metheny played professionally back in the early seventies.

I remember reading a review of the Crest by George Gruhn who said the features of the guitar were not what most guitarists like ie fully hollow instead of semi-hollow making it more suseptible to feedback. Also mini-hums instead of full size humbuckers.

Yes, fully hollow, floating p.u.s, and a flat back with a center inlay strip like a Martin. And brazilian RW!!
I have a friend with an amazingly comprehensive collection of Gbsn ES gtrs (that's right, an actual collection, with a specific focus, not the usual TGP amassing of random gtrs), and the Crest is his white whale; the only piece missing. I always hope he will some day find one and finally get a normal night's sleep!!
