Hello!
Wonder what you people would do in a live situation using your 2x12 cab loaded with a pair of G12H and a Alnico Blue, and you only had one microphone to mic up your cab with? Which speaker would you prefer?

I`m playing my D13 jrt stack, and I used to have two Greenbacks in my cab, so miking up where never a problem. Now I have swapped out the greenies for the G12H/blue.

I know a soundcheck is needed to determ, and I will do that. Just courious if any of you tgpèrs have experience on this "dilemma", and which speaker you ended up using - and why.

The jrt 9/15 is a bit on the bright side when using the EL84 mode, and I use that mode along with my LP to get a more british flavoured sound. Turning the amp on the 6V6 mode is perfect with my tele for a fuller, bit darker old school american sound.

Yeah, I've taken to enjoying mismatched speakers in my ac30 and I'd be interested to know what other people think.

I think the blue would probably be my choice, for this reason - its frequency response is more likely to fit in a mix without overpowering anything else. Put an sm57 on a blue, turn up the channel, and you've pretty much got a sound that's useable. With the g12h30 being a more bassy and glassy scooped mids speaker I think the sound engineer would more likely need to do eq work to sit the guitar tone in its place in the mix.

Obviously from just the perspective of the guitar amp on its own, the g12h30 is fantastic because it adds clarity and depth where two blues would be farting out and lacking balls at higher volume/ gain levels, but through a PA that's less of an issue because the PA can do more of the work.

I use this kinda setup mic'd all the time, except with the gold.

I spent time with noise canceling in ears to find the best spot for me.

I now put a mic in the center of the cab, two inches in from the edge of the gold speaker, and 6 inches back. So with the mic mainly over the gold/blue, which is def the speaker you want, I was able to get all the great chime from the gold, and got a little spill from the G12H, which added low end to my tone. So now I get a full tone, which lacks nothing! Boom.

I used to have a 65 amps london 212 combo with the same speaker setup as the OP. I usually mic'd the blue. But just play around and see what works best for your setup.

Kinda depends on the rest of the band, and what guitar tone will sit best in the mix. The blue will probably cut better, but the G12 will sound thicker.

If the amp is on the bright side question is whether you want to push that far and beyond with the Blue or go more conservative on the H Greenback.

My dilemma exactley!
Thanx anyway to all of you for chiming in.
