When I bought this guitar, I was told this was a First Run. Now someone is telling me it is not. Is there an expert who can help me and knows this?

And if not, would there be a difference in price between a first and a second run?

A far as I understand it, the first Les Paul Classics had "Les Paul Model" on the headstock just like a regular Les Paul. I had a classic with Les Paul Model on the headstock and I've never seen another. It also had a VERY skinny neck.

What Rob said. The first classics were pretty much identical to the super expensive Reissues and the dealers had a hard time justifying the high cost of the reissues as you could not tell them apart except fot the way the serial number worked. On classics the first number was the year, on reissues the second number was the year. So, they change the head stock to read Les Paul Classic. I had a '93 with model on the headstock so they used that at least that long.

The other notable change was the neck angle, the bridge sat quite a bit higher on the classic than the reissue.

A big +1.

I don't know anything about what you asked but that is definitely one fine looking guitar.

I bought one in 1991 that said Les Paul Model.

I was a nice guitar but got alot nicer when I put Antiquities in it.

You can definitely improve it with some better PU's

I have a '91 also. It is my understanding tha '91 was the first year for the classics, but Icould be wrong.

Yours is probably a '94.

Classics started in 1990. Yours is a 94. In 93 the "MODELl" was changed to "CLASSIC" and later in the year the cutaway binding got thicker (or vice-versa, I can't recall).

you can see it as well on the inlays, your classic has the famous snotgreen inlays which are now in the classics, whereas the first series had the normal MOP one

and yes the is a valuedifference due to the first one being more correct to the more expensive les paul standards

you can find an article on the classic on this page
