Ive got a tube amp, yet its not too modern sounding(rivera knucklehead)-kind of but im competing with a triple rec
it sounds great, dont get me wrong, but of course Im always looking for new options. I have a icebucker at the bridge that just kills too.
Thoughts? Tube screamer? or whole pedal of metal?
More of a scoop and a controlled type sound is what Im loooking for if you get my drift.
Experiences and recommendations are most welcome!

I play a lot stoner/grunge/groovyShit and for me some good pedals are doing it!! for stoner you need a fuzz or a fuzzy distortion
I use:
- T-rex mudhoney
- bajatech customs, DaMoaf
other that are good for stoner:
- EarthQuaker Devices: Hoof fuzz
- Musket fuzz
- Catalinbread, Super Charged Overdrive
- old big muff's
....
and some 1000 more! :dude

Im afraid fuzz might not be tight enough for me. What about going for a Down type sound or coc?

Never had a tube screamer. Maybe the baked mod one or something...? Im so confused too many out there!

Check out the Pharaoh fuzz, gets plenty tight, great for stoner/doom/sludge and much, much more.

I bet a tubescreamer could get you there with the tone knob rolled down a ways, I would check out the way huge green rhino and crank the bass. I own a road king head but play knucklehead tre regularly and would say those things play really scooped tones if you have a cab with g12t-75's in it and the foundation knob turned up.

Boss Metal Zone MT-2 with a Humphrey Mod. Awesome:

Also, the XTS Precision Overdrive. More of an overdrive, but what a freakin' overdrive. Check out the video at the bottom of this page:

For classic stoner I 'd prefer a nice fuzz such as a Mayo or a Meathead

Overdrive/distortion:
DAM Sonic Titan
Fuzz:
DAM Meathead
Best stoner pedal out there, but of course, very hard to get!
Other options worth looking at:
- Earthquaker Devices Monarch
- Earthquaker Devices Tone Reaper
- Catalinbread SCOD
Other option would be getting an old Orange OD120, an Electric Amp or a Matamp. Instant Stoner amps!

Because I have a one track mind, you might have fun with a Rat, just keep the filter knob way up around 3:00.

I still think you should stick with the amp as a basic foundation for your tone as it has plenty of gain and a very dynamic range. I would think about a parametric eq or even a filter pedal used to get more notched type sounds. I think if you are dead set on a distortion pedal a metal muff might be worth checking into, and they are even reasonably priced.

The Pharaoh sounds incredible, the demos are great but really don't compare to plugging it in to a loud tube amp. Absolutely HUGE sounding with no bass cut, sounds like your guitar/amp only bigger and all fuzzed out!
It has plenty of tone control and clipping options so it's super versatile. Also, look into one with the Germ option. You get the standard settings plus a germanium clipping option, which is smoother/creamier. Really walks the line between a huge sounding fuzz/distortion hybrid.
Lastly, Mark at Black Arts Toneworks rules, just a super friendly and knowledgeable guy and the price is so right!

Ok, so right now its between:
Pharoah fuzz
Catalinbread Supercharged Overdrive,
Baked modded tubescreamer,
possibly the humphrey metal zone, but not really sure I want another one of those(still seems sterile)
Does the fuzz get decent chuga chuga as well?

Fuzzface is the way to go, or the MXR 108 fuzz which is the same but more practical. My personal fave id the EHX Germanium Big muff. I don't know why but I love that pedal for everything.
Another big vote for the Pharaoh.

The Pharaoh gets as chuga chuga as I'd ever need. Not gonna cop triple rec metal tones, but that's a good thing. It turns your amp into a fuzz monster, just HUGE, blooming fuzz tones that rattle your innards! Easily the best muff style fuzz available.
You can dial in some pretty punchy distortion and gritty OD as well and everything sounds so organic and wide open, no ridiculous sizzle or compression, opposite of sterile. Can't go wrong with this one. Shames the EHX germ muff, just sounds bigger and more natural when A/Bd vs the Musket and Hoof.

I find the Emma Reezafratzitz to be about the most flexible and usable moderate to heavy distortion that I know of. It is particularly good at sounding both HEAVY and CLEAR and for matching up with a variety of amps and guitars.
I also really like the Catalinbread SCOD for the same reasons. It's a bit darker of sound.

Green Russian muff, or one of the many clones. Stoner/Doom magic. If you want to tighten it up for fast runs or chugga-chugga palm-muting, put a low od/boost in front of it.

Mark just contacted me on Friday to say my custom Pharaoh is in the mail! I can't wait to A/B with my Hoof...

You're going to love it! Did you get the germ option? The boost is a great suggestion, I've used a Cleanness before or after all my fuzz/Dist/OD boxes, beefs 'em up and tightens tone based on settings or level of drive.

I ordered one with the Germanium option the other day and have very high expectations!
I also love the SCOD and almost any Rat (you might wanna try Deuctone for TONS of gain!). But maybe the Pharaoh will cover it. :dude

Congrats on the decision. The Pharoah's a great pedal.
Honestly, with all these great suggestions, you really can't go wrong.
I'm curious about what you said about the Metal Zone with the Humphrey Mod. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but when you say that they're "sterile", do you mean the stock MT-2 or Humphrey's version? The difference between the two, for me, was like night and day.

HOLY SCHNIKES! This thing was just what Ive been looking for!!! Haven't tried it with my rig yet, just a valve jr at home but I can only imagine. Mixed with my phaser gets this scooped tone that will carve out your heart with a spoon. You cant dial in any bad sounds out of this thing! Thanks again!
One question- What kind of power supply are you running? When I plug in my boss one, it works but it makes this awful background noise. With just battery it is gone.

Just crank your amp up and roll down the tone knob on your guitar.

I've run mine on a PP2 and a 1Spot with no weird noise at all.

Same here, use a PP2+ 9V 100mA out and it's pure silence, until I hit the strings that is.

Might be something funky with your 1 Spot. When I had it hooked to mine, I was using the extender, too, with four other pedals and all was well.
