Hi,
This is far heavier than what I usually write. This time it was my Yamaha Pacifica 604W that got me into this mess. Guitar sounds courtesy of Native Instruments Guitar Combos PlexiCombo.
Here is my take:

Hey Mats,
I didn't know you could get so mean!
Although I am a pseudo jazz blues fusion wannabe, I grew up listening to Led Zep, D. Purple, B.Sabbath.....as well..
Nice playing.;)

Hi Marin,
Thanks for listening!
I am too a psuedo jazz blues fusion wannabe but I grew up listening to nothing particular and started my musical journey with the classical guitar. All roads lead to Rome, eh?

Loved it. Threw it ni the Mp3 player for the hard ride up the mountain roads on my crotch rocket today as part of my "motivational" music :D
Played over it as well and had fun doing it. Ill mix it down and post it when i get time.

I had fun with that. Thanks man. It has plenty of room to jam over. It's rare for me to find a rockin tune like this that doesn't demand shredding. I'm an old geezer and shredding ain't my thing. good stuff :)

Hi Martin,
Thanks for listening!
I played through the Plexi Combo for all the distorted sounds. The clean sounds (very few) were done with the Twang Combo.

Another cool tune, Journo. The solo was not overdone and fit perfectly. This one is way outside what I typically jam to, but it's such an upbeat track, I may have to give it a shot anyway. ;)

Hi Norm,
Thanks for the words!
This is also not what I normally do but if I don't do a little "off stuff" once in a whil I won't know what really is normal for me :D

Cool BT, that has a lot of energy! I'm all for heavier stuff!
Here's my take on that...not sure what's up with first second or so of my file, but after that its ok.

Hi adlibmusic,
Your sound was quite a bit darker than mine and thus created an interesting contrast.
Sometimes I wish I lived in the US so I could partake in the vast offerings of products of the boutique or small company variety.

Hi Myles,
Thanks for the kind words. "My show", yeah! In my dreams but it's a nice dream. I'm too old and have too little hair to still have the urge to pursue that dream. For fun I play old standards in a big band (Miller, Basie, Porter and similar stuff). Once in a blue moon there's a soul band. Nothing exciting and no place for my own compositions.

Just realized i never put up my track for this so i went back through the cobwebs and found it. If memory serves me right i had just put new strings on which explains why it gets painfully out of tune at one point...and i pause for a quick retune several times :D
Had a blast playing along to this one....almost has a David Lee Roth/Steve Vai feel to it from the Eat em and Smile/Skyscraper era.

Hi Dave,
Better late than never, eh? :D
I enjoyed your take. When I wrote this one I was actually going for the kind of intensity you play with. I wouldn't mind having the fluidity of your phrases either. Back to practice!

Thanks Mats.
Now, being that i am self-taught and dont even know the names of the chords i play(i play by ear and just know how they sound) you are going to have to 'splain "fluidity of phrases" to me :D
It is tracks like these when i wish i was good at soloing. I hear all these great licks in my head but i just dont posess the talent to play them :( I guess i would consider myself a "one string wonder" :D I have certain patterns that i know how to play that let me branch off onto other strings but thats about it...my inventory is quite repetitve unfortunately.
i really do enjoy your backings and i always look forward to new ones though some of yours are too complex and i cant follow along with them....but i enjoy them just the same.

Hi Dave,
A phrase is the musical equivalent of a sentence where a note is a word and the song is a conversation. Mind you, this is my personal view of music. So a phrase is a short melodic idea. When I say you play fluidly I mean that the flow of these melodic ideas you play is pleasing and the phrases fit well together.

Man, I love multi-track recording!
Here is my take on this BT: PacificaJam (http://toomuchfiction.com/jams/PacificaJam.mp3)
You'll hear some of my Satriani/Vai influences on the harmonized melodies. And my inner Zakk Wylde comes out in a few places - I didn't even know he was in there :D
Listening back to it, I can even hear some old Iron Maiden influence in the lead parts.
My favorite bit is the arpeggiated section near the end!
I decided to break out my old Johnson J-Station modeler and see what I could come up with - this is definitely not a tone I would normally use, but it worked with this track ;)
Journo - thanks again for another excellent backing track.
Gear used: '88 Ibanez Sabre (Duncan Invader Bridge pickup) -> Johnson J-station -> Mbox

Hi Kevin,
I just love it when somebody imposes their own vision onto one of my BTs and makes it something I could never have come up with. Definitely broadens my musical perspective. I think this was a killer version. You have the kind of fluid playing I wish I had.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Journo - once I started working on it, I knew I had to make a "song" out of it rather than just a "jam" :)
In all, I spent several hours working through it, but I like the end result!
I hope to follow in your footsteps soon and post a BT or 2 of my own - I need to acquire either a MIDI keyboard controller (I don't play keys) or a MIDI box to hook my guitar synth into so I can sequence up some bass/keys and drums.
Kevin
