So, a buddy of mine has a line on an amp from one of his buddies.
All original parts (not sure on the tubes yet).
Blackface Princeton Reverb.
My buddy has a few old amps and he'll know the year when he sees it.
The guy is asking $900 as of right now.
Depending on things, is that a fair price?

Those things were going for $1500+ a couple years ago. $900 is, IMO, fair.
cheers,

If it is what it seems to be- sounds like a nice deal. What does ebay say?
That's an average price for a clean non reverb black face princeton
Research and verify all the period correct part numbers, speaker codes etc.

Seems like a really good price if it's in decent shape...

That is a GREAT deal. Buy it. If you don't like, you could sell it in a heart beat and make a few bucks.
I posted an ad. looking to trade mine for a Tweed Deluxe & I got about 12 PM's asking if I wanted to sell it outright.
They are an "in-demand" amp. Change out the original speaker w/ a good 10" & you'll see why.
I just was in the amp & stuff emporium. Someone has a '64 for sale @ $2,300.00. It should sell around the $2K range.
If it all checks out-AGAIN- BUY THIS AMP for $900.

I sold my '67 Blackface for $1500 so $900 is a steal.

I bought a mint late PR for $500, modded it to blackface specs and added a blackface faceplate.
I love the sound of that amp. It has the best reverb I've ever heard.
That is a killer price...he should verify and if valid snap it up!!!
FWIW, I have a '68 drip edge( stock except for 3 prong cord and upgraded 10F150T speaker ) in VG++ condition and there is NO way I'd consider selling mine at that price.
900 for a BF PR is a great price, snap it!
Indeed, it is an incredible price, especially if it has the Jensen (as opposses to the Oxdord) speaker it. I saw a beat up God awful sounding, original 65 late last year for 1600. BTW, there is no difference beteen a BF and aSF PR.. The only change that was made was the speaker and the face plate, at least according to my sources. My deal was better though; a friend gave me his near mint stock 75 SFPR last month! between

I have a '67 drip edge PR (blackface in silver clothing). NO way I'd ever sell it for anywhere close to $900.
Buy that thing if it's in good shape!

There are some alterations depending on year of production for Princeton Reverbs (strange anomalies also exist for sure). Different rectifier tube in early days, various speakers being switched throughout the years, changing of component values, gluing of the baffle after '73 (floating baffle supposedly sounds better), the addition of a master volume circuit in late 70's, ...maybe more changes than that, but I think that's roughly it off the top of my head :munch.
If all Princeton Reverbs were the same regardless of vintage, then no one would need to mod (i.e. "Blackface") a Silverface to get it to hit Blackface specs and thus get that prized Blackface sound.
Perhaps the point of all this is that one can easily mod( or "blackface") a late 70's SF if they can't find a real mid 60's PR.:horse
I enjoy having the real deal, though I paid a several hundred more for that luxury.
