New and Used guitar pricing - lines blurring?

Is it me or are the prices for new vs. used guitars getting closer and closer? You used to be able to get good deals on eBay and in the forums but now there is not that much of a price difference for used stuff... $200 less for used??? I'll cough up the $$$ and just buy new. Seems better now to deal privately or have something special built for you by Danocaster, Ron Kirn, K-Line, etc.

I stop looking at eBay a long time ago. I just checked MF and American Standard Stratocasters retail new for around $999 to $1149. On eBay, the prices for closed auctions was around $800. eBay seems to be a good place for sellers and not for buyers.

I often buy used gear that is in like new condition for 50% or more off the original selling price at the big box retailers. You're probably just not looking hard enough or are buying stuff that was under $1000 new. The high end gear can usually be had for bargain prices used.
