Tim or Timmy?

Once again, I need some help from my TGP brothers. I searched past posts but didn't find much.

My next pedal will be a Tim or a Timmy. So does anyone actually use the extra features on the Tim? Money is not an issue but the extra size could be (but isn't a deal breaker if I the boost and/or loop are used). I have a Keeley Katana and a Klon clone so I have some boost options on hand. Anyone use the loop for a delay or something else? Anyone that can't live with a Timmy and has to have the Tim? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

I have both, and I've been test driving both for my rig. Here's what I'll say concerning the Tim/Timmy.

Both are excellent, excellent pedals. I find the Tim to have a useful boost side that adds some saturation to your drive, no doubt! It doesn't add a volume boost, or not noticeably, but it gives a nice added gain structure to the drive side for lead tones. If you have a nice-sounding amp, and want to make it sing, then the Tim is an excellent choice! One thing I have yet to do is plug into the FX loop on it, but I've heard clips, and if it's an EQ to give you a mid-humped transparent TS sound, or to scoop the mids more and give you a more modern rock sound, it's a nice feature. Analog and tape delays sound dreamy through the loop as well. :aok

The Timmy is a more compact sized OD that still carries the same pizzazz that the Tim does - and to my ears has a little more drive on-tap than the Tim (excluding the boost). The tweakable Treble/Bass EQ in these pedals is well-thought out. The knobs act as 'cut' controls, so at 0, the treble and bass from your signal passes, and as you rotate each knob, you cut more out of the signal. I think the clipping switch is nice, too. A little more open and dynamic, or a little more compressed - whatever you want, you can have! In every setting, this pedal just kills the competition at the price Paul offers!

The Timmy I've used for awhile was my lead boost at the end of my drive section, and it was STELLAR in this position. With my Bearfoot HBOD and DRD just in, I'm experimenting with stacking at the moment. :dude

Bottom line: If you want both a drive with a boost before the drive and foresee using the Fx loop, go Tim. If you want an equally beautiful drive tone that is a bit more mobile around your pedalboard for stacking/boosting and is a no-frills OD with TONS of mojo, go Timmy. Hope that helps.

I do not use loop on Tim, but boost is very usefull.

I just got off of the phone with Paul (he's such a cool guy) and I think I will go with the Tim. My name came up on the list today (I put in my request in September!) and I think since the boost is more for gain and not as much of a volume boost (which is what I like) I will do the Tim instead of the Timmy. By the way, the Tim has the 3/way toggle switch like the Timmy now so there are no sounds that the Tim can't get compared to the Timmy (and for $40 you get the boost and the loop if you can put up with a little larger box). It should be here next week. I can't wait!

I have a Tim as well. I do not use the loop, but I do use the boost at times for solos. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. A very usable pedal indeed.

Both are great. Never used the loop on the Tim, but I absolutely loved the boost side. It might be overkill for you, but I say go with the Tim. Who knows, you might decide to get rid of one of your current boost pedals

I have the Tim. I use both sides. Alot. It stacks incredibly well with anything you throw at it. It's the last drive pedal in my chain for that reason. It really likes another pedal feeding it, and sounds great on its own. I can use the boost for a "more" sound if I want to use it independently as an OD, or I can stack it with another and use the boost for a solo, or I can hit a pedal before it to goose the front end for solo sounds.

The only place I can't see having my Tim is off my board.

I am glad I have the TIM and I have to press both buttons to get a good overdrive sound. It is a great pedal and I use it in exclusion of my ZENDRIVE and Okko Diablo. In other words I only use the TIM for overdrive.

I realize that what I'm about to suggest has been suggested ad nauseum on this site but I'll do it anyway. Buy both, try them out for about 2 weeks, keep the one you like, and sell the other. At a minimum you'll get your money back. By the way, I have a Timmy and it's a great pedal.

Paul told me today that he started putting the switch on the Tim a little less than a year ago. It was added to the Timmy before that but I am not sure when.

My understanding was that the switch took the place of the push/pull pot on the back :dunno

That may be the case. He said it was a 3 way so it may be taking the place of the push/pull and still giving another tonal option in the 3rd position.

I'm on the waiting list for a TIM because I want the FX Loop and I think the Boost switch is a neat feature.

Paul's awesome, get both. That's what I did! I use the Tim on my "bigger" board, and have the Timmy as a backup and for a grab n go jam where I don't want to take my board.

The boost on the TIM is pretty sweet and a bit of a different feel than the overdrive....hard to explain but if you have the room try it first.

I have a TIM coming in MAY!! :) Bit the hype... Couldn't take it anymore. Spoke with Paul on the phone and he sure does sound like a really decent person. Hat's off to Paul.
