View Full Version : Is $900 for a 1970 Vibrolux a good deal?

I'm trying to decide if I should go for a used 1970 Vibrolux for $900 or deluxe reverb reissue. Definitely haven't seen any used vintage DR anywhere in my price range.

I love the clean Fender tone, but there's also this thought in the back of my head that I would be happy with a Maz 18.

Either way, I'm mainly going to use my FD2 for OD tones. I mainly play in church venues, but I occasionally get to crank up pretty loud for some alternative rock stuff.

Your thoughts would be appreciated. I've gone through 4 or 5 amps over the past few years, and I can't afford to own more than one.

I had a late 70's vibrolux for a very short period of time...and had a maz jr for a long period of time...me personally...given the choice....I'd pay 1000-1200 for a used Maz, before I'd pay 900 for a old vibrolux...I liked the maz alot...fender was nice...for me, maz was nicer.....different animals for sure....the maz just suited me better........

btw...are my letters slanted...cause I'm drinking, and I think I hit a button I'm not familiar with...lol

If the choice was Between the VL and a DRRI I'd do the VL every time.. sure you may have to do a cap job or a tube or two, but that's maintenance and then you're good for 20+ yrs and have incredible tone all that time.. tone, money.. I can make more money but I live with my tone every day.

If it's all original and in good condition, yes it's a fair deal. Those seem to go for $800-$1100 (approx) these days.

I have a '73 as my main amp.

Certainly wouldn't consider it a bad one..

The VR is the perfect small club amp.
Just keep in mind, you'll want to have
enough set aside to have your tech go through
it and that might run a few hundred for caps, cleaning
tubes etc.

In good condition a VR will hold it's value quite well.

You can always face it cross stage at church if the stage volume
is a bit too bold.
