I recently acquired a Victoria 35310. It came with a JAN Phillips ECG 12AX7 which periodically causes static. I tested the tube in my Champion 600 and the tube behaved the same way.

I currently have a Sovtek 12AX7LPS that sounds good, but is rumored to not be able to withstand the voltages in the cathode follower position. I would appreciate some recommendations for a tube that can withstand the voltages and not get noisey in this position. Thank you.

The old stock RCA 7025 or the 12AX7A tubes are great, they have the spiral windings
in the post like the old Mullards from Blackburn. And the old stock long plate Sylvania 12AX7 or 7025 tubes are great, many on ebay have the Organ Brands on them, Baldwin, etc.

I only use the old stock tubes as they seem to last much longer and sound great.

If you take your time and watch ebay, you can find some great old stock tubes in a BIN buy it now deal, during the day is the best deals where everyone is at work.

For new manufactured tubes, the Russian made Mullards are good, the Tung Sol 12AX7 is good, and Groove tubes makes the 12AX7M Mullard design new stock tube, they are hard to find.

For the 12AT7, get the 1984 era stock of the Mullard England JAN Military tubes, they are the best for the phase inverter 12AT7 amps. The old Mullards used silver plated metals in the design.

Any NOS or ANOS ... for modern only JJ or Chinese (TAD 7025 is good). All (Russian) New Sensor Reissues (Tung Sol, Sovtek, RI Mullard, Gold Lion Etc) are sometimes (not always) liable to blow in cathode follower slots.

In my humble experience the russian tubes generally are pretty rugged but usually do not sound as good as other new production or NOS tubes so the get kind of a bad rap. There are some amps I actually prefer them in :hide

I've found recently that NOS/ANOS GE longplate 12AX7s don't like cathode follower positions either. No problems known with other NOS/ANOS 12AX7s.

Thanx for that... I was just thinking of getting a couple of GEs cause I don't have any... the cathode follower slot is sometimes above the true specs for 12AX7s isn't it? As I understood it NOS were usually over-built for long life.

EDIT Are the shortplate GE 12AX7 OK?

I like eurotubes JJs. The two sides are matched for phase inversion. I also like their 6L6 and 6V6 tubes.
