I was checking my bank account and there are two 1.00 fees from Identity Guard and Credit Report. I called the Identity Guard number and the guy said someone applied to Ident Guard with my debit card number. I ordered a watch from Amazon recently, would one of their sellers run this on your card for some reason? When I saw these charges I immediately cancelled my debit card and am now without one for a week or so. I also may have screwed up my watch order as well. I hope this is clear enough, any ideas?

I've seen $1 fees before, and they were generated from a valid transaction. It was a test to confirm the account was valid, and the full charge showed up later. It was a gas station as I recall.

Possibly, but if they did it should have been discolsed to you in the purchase agreement.
I just looked up Identity Guard and it appears be be an identity theft protection service much like Lifelock. I doubt an Amazon seller is going to charge you through that kind of a service.

If you haven't already, you should get on the phone to your bank to investigate it. The majority of debit card fraud is done in small amounts in order to avoid being flagged. You should have been notified of any charges made to your account by a seller.

having worked at a bank prior to my current job, I can confirm this information, even back then before it was the bigger issue it is today. Call the bank, report it as an unauthorized transaction if you didn't place it, and get a new card number. I'm doing this very thing myself in light of the Playstation network debacle.
If you purchase gas at a gas station and choose credit, the gas station will place a $1 charge on the account and then submit the receipt for the larger purchase. Restaurants submit the charge for your meal and then the charge changes to include the tip once they submit the receipt for debit.

As someone who works in finance and deals with holds on debit cards on a daily basis, this is why I never ever ever use my debit card for any transaction. Credit Card only, and pay off the balance in full on a weekly(or monthly if you'd like) basis. I can immediatly dispute any charge and no one has access to my checking account.
