My wife calls me from home tonight (I'm stuck at work until midnight)
and tells me our dog isn't feeling well and won't eat his dinner.
10 minutes later It's looking serious as he's both vomiting and has diahrea with blood. She got ahold of the vet through an emergency number and he said we need to give him pepto bismol and get him to the vet clinic first thing in the morning. However if the blood gets worse we need to get him to the 24 hour vet clinic about an hour south of here.
We could really use serious mojo tonight. I'm really freaking out and can't do anything about it for at least another hour when I get off work.
We don't have any kids and Maverick has been the closest thing we have to that. It tears me up and I feel so helpless that am unable to help him.
Update:
We got Maverick to the vet and it wound up that he had a simple infection. He is on meds now and a full recovery is expected in the next 2 or 3 days. :aok

Mojo out to a Maverick. Try to hang in there, you'll know whether or not to take him to emergency room once you get home.

Blood/Vomiting/etc would have me at the Emergency Vet NOW. I'd err on the side of caution in this sort of thing, and get my dog to the vet NOW. Just being there, and knowing my dog is being seen by a professional is a big relief.

I'm sorry Bob...sounds like my dog when he had Parvo. Get him in ASAP. If that's not possible, keep him hydrated until you can get him in. Good luck and hang in there Mav!

"mojo" is a sexual reference and probably not a good choice of word for this.
Best wishes for your dog though.

This is the mojo i'm referring, as opposed to the Austin Powers variety

Did you mention a fever? Feel his belly, if it's really hot, he probably has one. Smell the diahrrea. If it smells metallic, it may be parvo. Get him to that clinic ASAP. My wife does dog rescue and we've had a few parvo cases, all of which survived due to getting immediate care. I wouldn't wait. He'll need to be hydrated as well.
Could be numerous other things as well. I'm not a vet, though. If he stabilizes, no more vomiting, or bloody stool, you could wait til morning.
Good luck and sending positive thoughts to you and your pup.

Thanks for all the well wishes. We got him to the vet and he was running a little bit of a fever. They ran a sample of his stool and determined he had a simple infection most likely from eating something bad. He is now on anitbiotic and a sort of pepto bismol in tablet form. He is doing a ton better tonight and expect a full recovery in the next two or three days.

My mom works with sled dogs in Alaska and the first thing she ask is "Whats the poo smell like?"
I say it smells like normal dog poo if there is such a thing. I guess that was a good answer and she was pleased.

Wonderful news! Hope Maverick is on the road to a speedy recovery!
A sick doggy is like a sick baby in that they can't tell you where it hurts.

I'll keep him in my thoughts.
They're everything to me and I know how it's scary going trough that with the little ones you love.
