I spent a couple hours at GC the other day in the acoustic room (yay working weekends, leaves Wednesday afternoons free :)) and took the time to really compare everything on the wall. The HD28 is the sound I am after. Just perfect.
And now, we save....

Is that a special model?...The Herringbone Trim and Trim around the sound hole seems to stand out more than I am used to seeing. FWIW I have an HD-28 I bought back in 1978 when I was 16 years old. Brand new from Mandolin Brothers it cost me 723.00 and that included shipping!

Light conditions, I would say. Reminds me of my old HD28 before I got to realise most of the money spent was for the name on the headstock. :(

I also have a HD-28, J200 and J45... Great minds think a like!
I've played a couple of new HD-28's and ever single one is killer... Just wait until it starts to open up. After 6 months of owning mine it still blows me away everytime I pick it up. It's volume and clarity seem to be continually improving.
Have fun with it!

Congrats! I bought one new back in 1994 and without a doubt it's the best sounding acoustic I've ever played. They had 6 in stock so I took the pick of the litter. Fantastic guitars.
I'd almost forgotten that my top once looked like that too! It's now a dark golden color.

This HD 28 projects the sound as if it was a cannon and what I really like is that and I'm repeating myself here but there is so much definition and clarity not only picking but strumming as well .
I can see why they call this guitar a banjo killer !
