The D&MG forum has been pretty quiet lately regarding the M13 and M9. Are you guys still digging (and gigging) it?
I've had my M13 since just after it came out and it's my "go to" Swiss Army knife for live use. Whatever a song might need for sonic texture, I'm able to quickly conjure up the effects needed for the song. It may not be exactly what the recording had, but most folks would never know the difference. It's become a valuable tool for me.
So for you all that have one...
Has it fallen into the realm of a good guitar - you know it'll just work for you every time....or has it simply fallen by the wayside?
I thought of replacing my M13 with a Pod HD500. Then i realized, if i would use HD500 like a pedalboard, will need to adjust levels to match bypass level (don't like this idea), won't have direct access to parameters for effects, etc.
IMO, M13 is priceless as a pedalboard replacement. If you like your current rig and add some spice to it, nothing touches M13. There may be better sounding units out there, but nothing is as practical and easy as analog like M13.

I like my HD 500 as a pedal board a little better than the M13 for the most part, but do miss the EXTREME ease of use of the M13.
Nothing wrong with it. It's awesome.

I have both the m13 and HD500. If I could convince myself to go ampless i'd sell the M13. Can't seem to do it though so it stays for now.
I prefer the M13 as my pedal board. The HD is a practice and recording rig

Yeah I pretty much saw the writing on the wall a year ago. The M13 is a legacy product at this point unless L6 proves me wrong. Its less than 3 years old which makes you wonder what the update cycle for the HD500 will be.

Why does it need an update? I was thrilled when they gave a way the 2.0 update with all of those model additions; that update answered every request I could think of. I don't think Line 6 owed M13 owners anything, 2.0 was above and beyond IMHO.

I traded mine for an M9 for the extra space. I miss the ease of use and induvidual controls A LOT!
I guess I just need time to adjust.

Did two shows with it today and it is really convenient.
The chorus sounds are good and the Boost compressor is really funky.

I gigged with my M9 last weekend, still loving it. I mostly use it for the delays and modulation effects, but I also like the boost / comp to hit the front of the amp a little harder for solos and such.

Use my M13 every Sunday as my main effects rig at church. Best $350 I've spent in the past few years, to be honest. Still loving it.

I love my M13, love the effects but mostly love the user interface and easy of autosave dials just like a pedalboard.
Recently acquired an HD500 and really loving it as well. It has taken over as primary rig for stage use at church.
Here is why:
1. 16 amp models vs. using single Tech21 Blonde
2. smaller form factor
3. lighter and fits right in pedaltrain1 hardcase
4. flexibility with amps and pedals, does not require external dirt pedals or wah pedal
5. adjustable volume pedal location (I put after modulation/dirt and before delay/reverb)
6. easily accessable wah pedal (that sounds good)
7. editor software much better on HD500.....but needed less on M13
8. USB interface for updates.....WAY better than midi
9. cost difference and value of the box that I leave in church closet each week:
hd500 cost=$350 (got good deal on new one)
vs
m13 cost = $350 (used) + $50 eb volume pedal + $100 tech21 blonde + $200 xotic bb+ dirt + $100 morley badhorsie2 wah +100 pedaltrain with hardcase +$25 georgeL cabling
I still love the M13....just may be loving it at home

I still like my M13 especially for pad sounds and I'm contemplating the JHV3 mod.
My buddy bought a HD500 as another house amp option at his church but the M13 seems so much easier to use and tweak on the fly.
I'm going to build a new pedalboard around the new Timeline and may pick up a used M9 if I can't get all of the sounds I got used to on the M13.

I've had my M9 for about a year and its been great. I can't see any reason to go back to a big train of pedals again. The only complaint I have is that the read out should be larger and brighter, particularly for the tuner.

I was using the M13 and loved the flexibility. But, I wanted to try and make some room on the board so I went to the M9 as well, which is great.. but now I can't get a lot of the really great sounds I got from the 13 running 4 effects simultaneously. I've since sold most of my gear due to being overseas for a while, but when I get back I'm going to rebuild my rig, and probably go back to the M13 because it did pretty much everything I needed and more (plus the M9 didn't really save me that much room anyway). Oh, and on a side note... I discovered Chris Schifflet from the Foo's is using an M13 on their current tour. I think he might have seen the light as well, instead of running two DL4's and a MM4 on one board :)

Yes - I still am enjoying my M9, but . . . . .
For me a lot will depend on the gig. I just put my old pedalboard back together to take to a place we play and ended up with someone kicking over the pedalboard - disconnecting something, but wasn't quite sure what so ended up playing with no effects for the second set.
The joy of the M9 (besides all the killer effects) for me is - one cable in, one cable out (not counting the the pedal to control effects). No real issues if someone kicks it.
I'll admit I still enjoy both worlds.

I got an M13 when it came out as well. I still use it for delays and mods. I had to get a PT-Pro for the darn thing to fit on, and it takes up pretty much the entire left side of the board (i guess there's room for a power strip or something above it if you needed one.) The only real downside for me at this point is the size. I don't really use the OD/Dist. models, but they are okay, not great. I tend to use my analogs for that!
Looks like Chris from da Foos has it on his board now. I would love it if it had an integrated pedal. Then it would be it. Can't get the HD500 to be all buttons=effects. Still using a GSP1101 in 4 cable method because I can make that do pretty much everythnig i need. I would really like a hybrid though. An M13 with half the buttons and an added pedal for wah-auto on of course. Great unit.

I use it this way all the time. No problem.
Not the same as the M13, of course, but I can still put it in FX only mode easy. 8 buttons to turn FX on and off in addition to the exp pedal switch.

I was all set to get an M13 when the HD500 came out. I'd STILL get the M13 (because I don't need the amp models) if L6 would lower the M13's price, but I can't think of any reason to get the M13 over the HD500 at the same price. The 500's expression pedal alone makes it a far better deal, not to mention the amp models.
I just don't understand why L6 doesn't lower the price on both the M13 and M9 to try to milk more sales out of these two products. I'd get an M13 tomorrow if I could get a new one for $300-350 or so.

I have the HD500 and I kept my M9 on the board as well. Really glad I did because the M9 is way easier to zip through different effects on the fly and I can always recreate them on the HD later in Edit, which is easier.
It also makes for a cool "instant access" pedalboard to use in conjunction with the HD.

Since you mention chorus, one thing I do wish you could do is set your own defaults for each model. For a while I thought the chorus was just over the top but it's because the model I was using defaulted to like a 100% mix. :)
Oh, and I still totally dig mine. I have an HD500 but the interface is different enough (presets vs. virtual pedals) that I still feel like it's worth keeping the M13.
