So, I had a productive holiday weekend cleaning the soundproof basement studio room. It had five years of crap piling up.... Lots of amp parts and wires, boxes, Mouser baggies, etc..... Also dust and probably mold spores from another basement room that had some water in it. Took me a couple hours to pick wire clippings out of the carpet! Then used a big shop vac, and followed with the Dyson. I purchased two Austin Air HEPA air purifiers for both basement areas. 15 pound charcoal filters with HEPA specs and 5 year life span. Nice.
We remediated the mold issue (nothing major) in the other areas of the basement (bad downspout in front pouring right on the cinder foundation). I had the cinder treated with Borax and a sealer too. I added a big Aprilair 90 pint a day dehumidifier ducted into both the unfinished and finished areas (not the soundproof studio though). The studio room is triple walled with vinyl barrior material and is totally seperate from the rest of the finished basement
I am planning on adding a 9000btu minisplit ductless AC/heatpump unit next week to the studio. It does plasma air purification and dehumidifying, as well as cooling and heating. Right now I have one closed vent int he studio. I will disconnect the duct and use the much better seperate AC system. The drop lighting can get toasty, as can several 100 watt amps on all at once.
It houses the recording area - where the magic happens LOL, a full surround mini theater ( a couch in front of a 55 inch panel with great stereo and surround), and of course about a dozen great amps, a dozen cabs, and my guitars.......
Now that it is clean and organized, I may move in..... LOL
Pics to follow.....

WAY too ambitious for Memorial Day weekend my brother.
I napped four times this weekend......
:D
I'm about to do the same... good on you. It's been getting wet around here with rain so at some point recently I dialed the humidity level down on my dehumidifier. It makes the feeling of the room - air quality so much better in the summer - a contrast to the rest of the basement. It's so refreshing to walk into... and CRANK the damn amp up.

I cleaned my nasty @$$ shower. The GF asked me to, very politely I must say, so I did. It took a WHILE...

wow I feel like an underachiever ... all i did was grill up a bunch of swordfish, London broil, Italian sausages, asparagus & zucchini for a party of about 45 (and nothing but this fat gut and sunburn to show for it!)

Thanks guys!
Let me just say the project was going on for a couple weeks.... The actual mancave organizing took place about 75% this weekend. Been nibbling at it on and off the prior week as well. Just such a big job I kept putting it off...like writing a term paper. haha
Been working on the mold, humidity, and cinder stuff for a weeks.

9000 btu won't cut it. Minimum 13000 is my experience.

Gee....On Sat. I distributed 8 yards of mulch, cut the grass, fertilized, and droped some grub x, powerwashed the patio, outside furniture, side of the house and trash can holders. Then installed some shelves in my sons room then passed out.
Hmmmmm...... would rather have been there lol!!!! Can't wait to see it!!! Now thats a bat cave!!!!!!

Curious - spending 2 hours plucking out bits of insulation prior to using the shop vac sounds like it's time to buy a new filter/shop vac!

Really?
The room is about 400 sq ft. Well insulated. In the summer, the room may hit 76-78 max with no ventilation.
I could easily get the Fujitsu 12000btu unit. No biggie. $ is not the issue on these, there is only about $100 between sizes. I was thinking of doing one of the three following units. All qualify for the NJ energy efficient rebate of $500!
1) LG LA090HSV - 9000btu. Slightly quieter than the Fuji units. My guy has installed over 100 with no issues. Looks nice--- artistic case for wall unit.
2) Fujitsu 9RLS - 9000btu. 26 SEER rated. Highest out there. More cfm on high but slightly higher DB ratings. Also, drab white plain case on wall unit. Fuji 9RLF also qualifies at 23 SEER and is slightly quieter than the RLS.
3) Fujitsu 12RLS- 12000btu. Same as above, except 25 SEER.
So, big decisions.... LG 12000btu doesn't qualify for the $500 back.

Not insulation. Pieces of wire clippings from resistors and capacitors, mainly. They get "threaded" into the carpet fibers.... Got to pull them out either by hand or with a needlenose!

If your room hits a max of 78 in the summer then it may work. I have a room roughly 300 sqft and originally had a 9000. Returned it for a 12, then a 13 and it barely cools. Those portable air conditioners aren't nearly as efficient as a wall unit but since your max is only 78 it should help to cool it down a few degrees.

These aren't portable units! They are full blown ductless units with a compressor outside. About $3500-4000 installed. They are actually far more efficient than any other design since they have no duct loss and they have an inverter that runs the compressor on DC. It can run full time on a fraction of power and capacity maintaining temp. I think 3800 btu to 14500btu is the range on the Fuji 12000 unit.

I'm an HVAC engineer, and an interior space like that generally means 350 sq.ft. per ton of cooling, maybe a max of 400 sq.ft.
One ton = 12000 BTUH. So I'd go with a 12 as well. For perspective, a person at rest generates ~240 BTUH. Amps, lights and any TV/computer loads are what you're dealing with.
Better to have and not need than need and not have...

Good advice. Any comments on the noise level of LG versus Fujitsu? Also quality....

I'm inclined to choose Fujitsu based on quality concerns. I usually spec Daikin or Mitsubishi though. The Fujitsu has a quiet mode that seems appealing.
Just be sure and go for inverter-driven compressors that can also be shut down via a factory control algorithm to aid in dehumidification; you'll need that in a basement.

I need the super high EER and SEER to get the rebate so inverter it is for sure!!!
Thanks for the tip....
