I've got an old 1985 E Series MIJ Strat that I have been playing for a while and I love the way plays to death. There's only 2 things that really bother me. I'm not real in love with the bridge (Fender System 1) but I haven't seen anybody swap one of these out for a regular floyd rose so I don't think there's much I can do about that right now.
One thing I can change though right now is the Pickups. They are extremely noisy. I want some noiseless pickups. I like vintage strat sounds in all the positions, but the bridge pickup (on it's own). I like a humbucker sound in the bridge however the routing for these bodies are for 3 single coils and I don't really want to route the body for a humbucker.
I use to have a Duncan JB-jr in another Strat in the bridge pickup and I didn't really care for it. It sounded bright and harsh. I was thinking about maybe a Lil-59 Duncan but I'm not sure. So basically I'm open to suggestions.
I play SRV & Eric Johnson type stuff but I also do a lot of Zeppelin, Van Halen & 80's Stuff. I know it's hard to get those kind of tones from a regular single coil pickup so that's why I'm looking at one of the mini humbuckers like the Lil-59 to fatten things up and not sound so thin and bright. I want noiseless pickups that will work nicely together. I use the bridge/middle pickup position alot so I kind of worry about that with the mini humbucker. I'm not looking for anything super fancy or super expensive. I have pretty much always used either Fender or Duncan pickups. I've never tried any Dimarzio so I'm not sure what they offer.
So with all that in mind, does any one have any thoughts or suggestions.
