Hey guys whats up?

I finally will have enough money to purchase one of the proper two - rock heads!

So, here's were it begins :P

The first two rock amp i saw was the opal, and was blown away with it.

i judged it mostly by what i saw in this vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfXUb1g1xLA

and i was like 'wow i want my amp to sound like that'

Lovely cleans, and the drive is unbelievable too. In my opinion it was very close to John Mayer, and his tone is what I'm looking for in an amp. In Cleans AND drive.

So then i found out they were out of production and i emailed two rock asking if it was basically the end of the opal amp and they said ;

'The Opal is no longer in production because it is an older model. I do have a few chassis here, so it may be possible to build one as a custom amp, but it would take quite a while to make this happen. You would be looking at 6-8 weeks at least. A comparable amp would be the Custom Reverb Signature Version 3.'

So then I'm thinking OK, custom amp will probably be more pricey, take longer but then they said the Custom Reverb Sig 3 is a comparable amp.

I was emailing a guy on a different forum and he basically said to go with the CR Sig 3 as he thinks that two rock have come a long way since then and the CR Sig 3 has a lot of new features so it would be a good bet.

So.. I'm stuck. I don't know what to do. I will probably end up getting the CR Sig 3. But I'm afraid in case its not what it's ment out to be. Now, I'm sure it will more than likely blow me away when i get it but i REALLY like the opal tone especially the drive, as seen in the video above.

So basically, is the Custom reverb Sig 3 close to the opal? Should i get it? will it sound like the opal as they said? Do cabs have anything to do with it? I mean come on, just listen to that video and you'll understand where I'm coming from... but yet I'm confused :/

You guys obviously know more than me so any thoughts or opinions would be great!!

Thanks ! All the way from Ireland!!

Did a quick search on Opal and found this.

I have no experience with the other Two Rocks you mentioned, but the Opal is a very special amp. I have a HSS Strat that I tend to use alot and the Opal is as touch sensitive on the gain channel as a real Trainwreck Liverpool I had a pleasure of playing a couple times.

The OD side of the amp is very much more rock n roll, aggressive type stuff. Just a pleasant sound that I can never get bored with.

Clean channel does everything I need it to do. It's got the mayer thing going on if you dial it in for that. It's just a real treat to be able to play the Opal - fight for it, IMO.

The Opal has been out of production for years. But the CR Sig v.3 is a great amp; I've had several TRs over the years, and I like this amp best so far.

Hey,

I own the CR sig v3. Ive played both with the intention of buying one of them. I would stick with the v3 however ... buy the 100 watt version. It's a much more flexible amp. However, these things are true instruments and need to be played. I mean they are much more responsive than you know. your not going to plug in and get the tone you hear in that video clip. They only respond that way when you figure out how to touch the guitar. They just don't mask anything, so you can truly hear the tone in your hands. It takes a while. But you can make that tone you hear there... And a lot of other variations that you'll be proud of. But do the 100 watt v3 for what else you can do beyond that.

The thing you have to remember is that John Mayer is getting his overdriven tone from pedals. He is not using the lead channel of an amp. His Two Rock and his Dumble SSS are one channel, clean amps. He is getting his lead tone from pedals - which one or ones (TS10, BB1, Klon) -I will leave that to the members to decide.

So if you are strictly looking for a one channel, clean amp - consider a Classic Reverb or Custom Clean. If you are looking for an amp that gets you great clean tones and reverb plus has a lead channel - I think the Custom Reverb Sig v.3 is the one.

However, the bottom line is all of the Two Rock's in the line up are just amazing amps. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I have the Custom Reverb Sig 2 w/Two-Rock Sig 212 cab and I wouldn't trade for another amp. The sounds I can pull from it are quite simply the pinacle of my experience as an amp owner. I have had Marshall's, Magnatone, Fenders, Mesa Boogie, Peavey, Swart, Dr Z, and maybe a half-dozen more that I can't remember at the moment. To my ears it has the best cleans, the best drive, and the best and most tweakable reverb I've ever used.

Get the Sig 3 and don't look back, because it will close the book on amps for you. Since I got mine the only amp I've added has been a small portable practice one.

This is the video that sold me on the Opal. I should have held on to mine.

I have an Opal, and love it (you can't have mine).
I find a lot of TR models can get tones similar to those in the first video posted, especially the cleans. The Onyx is another great older model that I find similar.

I assume you have checked out this thread (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=680126), of course, a great rundown on the models.

I own TR Jet, but have played Custom Clean, Custom Reverb, Classic Reverb, Jet etc in one sitting and agree that clean tone wise all TR's sound really close.

I thought for versatility the Custom Reverb was the best in their lineup today, but if you don't care about lead channel (use pedals), than a Classic Reverb 100-watt model might be right for you.

Try Ultra Sound they had a few NOS Two-Rocks a while ago... and I believe they had an Opal new still in the box.

I love LSchefman's old Onyx. Great cleans, great OD, great touch and separate controls for the OD and the clean channels.

theres a used early model TR in Toronto. I'm on the fence personally, although the lower wattage models are intriguing. Are they considered toys against the 5k+ crowd?
