I purchased a new Panther reverb head directly from James a few weeks ago and when it came in the mail I had a problem with the 2nd channel (ef86 side).

The 2nd channel has a has two tone options. 1) you can flip a toggle switch and use JUST the volume and 5-way tone selector knob. 2) Flip the toggle switch to the other postion and this turns off the 5-way tone selector and enables the Treble/Bass tone knobs, and includes a master volume (which can be switched to completely off and out of the circuit).

The problem is, ONLY my Volume + 5-way tone selector knob work on the 2nd channel! When I flip the toggle switch to use the Volume and Treble/Bass tone knobs (regardless if the master volume is switched on or off) there is NO sound from the amp (unless i crank it all the way up, and then there is the slightest of sounds).

===> Since it is the ef86 side of the amp, i kind of thought it might be due to that tube.... But then that doesnt make sense because my Volume + 5-way tone knob work just fine on channel 2:huh Does this mean there is a bad solder joint or something?

Have you called or emailed James? He will probably get back to you in less than an hour and tell you exactly what it is. He helped with my Black Cat 30 - even emailing me late on weekend nights for pointers. Great guy - great amps!

If you bought it new direct, you should just send it back. Don't let anyone else in there at the risk of voiding the warranty. I'm sure it's a simple fix, but let the manufacturer worry about it.

Hmm, I am in NYC so that would be a long ship back!

Maybe I should look for a dealer here in the city that is authorized.

I was just wondering if this was a problem with any other Panther users.

Check the manual. I am almost positive that when you engage the 5way the master is cut out automatic. I have always had good luck getting James on the phone, contact him for sure.

Yeah the master is def cut. That is not the problem. The problem is when i flip the switch to use the treble/bass tone controls, there is NO sound, either with the master on or off :(

Trust James to help you either figure out the issue by phone or to
send it back on his authorization.

On the East coast, Boston Guitar Works is the authorized dealer.
