It's a beautiful day, you bring the acoustic guitar outside to play, you go inside to grab a bite, one thing leads to another, you forget the guitar.

It sits in the sun for hours or clouds move in and it starts to rain.

Anyone ever had that happen to them?

My buddy leaned his new acoustic up against the back bumper and realized he didn't have his car key. Went back in to get it and then happily backed out of the driveway to come over and play...

I sold it on eBay for $26, never took it out of the gig bag.

Yrs ago I was playin' 5 stories up on the rooftop of the old Colony Bldg in downtown Charleston, SC. It was blues nite and we had an amazing gig that nite. I was playin' my '60 Strat. We packed up and left, and me and the Harp player headed across town to the Red Hot Blues Room to jam with some buddies. I park the car and reach into the back seat and no guitar. Instant heart attack. Head back to the Colonly and it's there on the table, open case, no one else around. I couldn't believe it. You only get one chance like this right? Well, about 4 yrs ago I was playin' Al's Place in Okinawa, Japan. I get a call after I get home after the gig and it's Al. He's got some small talk going on and I'm thinking whatever Al, I'm tired and I want to go to bed. He asks if the guitar I played that night was one of my expensive ones. Yeah Al, it was my '60 Strat. Well you left it outside the club on the street next to a power transformer. Again, instant heart attack. No worries George, I thought it was yours and it's behind the bar in the club, yu can pick it up tomorrow. Unbelievabe! Am I tryin' to get rid of this guitar or something. In front of this same club my buddy sets his rack case down on the sidewalk while buyin' a hotdog. Pays for the hotdog and reaches down for the case and it's gone, stolen while he's standing right beside it! I am a complete dumbass but a lucky dumbass.

I left a guitar in the car overnight a couple times. Doesn't sound so bad but one of those times was about 15 years ago, in the summer, .....in Phoenix. Now I know what it looks like when most of the glue joints in a crappy Kay archtop come undone.

Luckily I've never left a guitar somewhere, but I did almost lose my amp once...

It was at a festival type gig with my old band. The load out was kind of weird, as there was a great staging area just to stage right, but the band after us hadn't loaded into the staging area, so they were unloading out of their van straight to the stage. We had to move our gear to the staging area, then wait for them to finished their load in.

So while we waited, of course people are coming to talk, drinks are poured, then the next band starts...So it was a long time before we really loaded out. Somehow I managed to forget my head. Just left it sitting there on the stage. Never even realized it.

I got a call a few days later from my brother-in-law who knew the promoter..."Dude, did you leave your amp up there?" Luckily the stage manager took it home with him, and he lived in my town so I was able to pick it up from him.

It's not the greatest amp, but I would have been crushed if I'd have lost it.

my dad left an ovation 12 string with the leaf hole type design (it may have even been an Adamas) standing up in a parking lot at night, realized he forgot it after he got home and went back and it was still there standing up in the parking lot.

After auditioning bass players, one guy left his bass (in the case) sitting in the parking lot. Oops.

We did return it.

Playing a Harmony Rocket on a Friday evening in front yard. A neighbor comes over and asks me to come over to his place for a sec. I lean the guitar against a chair. Go to his place. Party ensues. Come home hours later. Go to bed wake up the next morning and realize the guitar sat out in the rain all night. It's actually still playable ....

Brought one of my guitars onto the patio of a bar to watch a friend's gig (didn't want to leave it in the car). Left the bar and drove away with my guitar still sitting under the table. Realized it when I was about 5 miles away from the place. :omg

Sped back and luckily it was still there.

I've got a buddy whose guitar is apparently trained to follow him home. He's an incredible player, but can be an airhead at times.
A quick example: One night after playing, he put his guitar (in case) on the roof of his car while he loaded his amp in the trunk. He shut the trunk lid, and drove off with the guitar still on the roof.
The next day, someone comes into the local music store with a guitar case. "I found this lying in a ditch on some back country road.... any idea who it belongs to?"
Right about then, my buddy comes in to the store to buy some strings, and there's his guitar, sitting on the counter. He hadn't realized it was missing.
This kind of stuff happened to him almost weekly.... he'd leave it in a bar, and some other musician would recognize it, and take it to the club where he was scheduled to play the next evening. He'd walk in, and there would be his guitar, waiting for him.
